I'm sorry to post something like this here but I've tried other 'free computer forum' help and they take way to long to respond and everything they had me try clearly didn't work, and I will show/explain what they had me do. Besides, I got computer help on here before. As always, if this is in the incorrect location, please move it to the correct location. Thank you.

So I've been having weird issues with my Windows 7 laptop.

Basically, what happens, is that my Windows Media Player doesn't work when the computer starts up and I let it load and everything. The program comes up but I get the loading circle and it never loads. So I have to use Task Manager to End Task it. When this happens, my free Avast Antivirus won't run virus scans either. The only fix to this seems to be to restart the computer. Which is annoying.

I've already tried multiple ways to detect viruses, malware, etc. and I have already run previous scans where nothing was detected. So that is not the problem.

If you want proof, here is a thread that I posted on on a forum called 'tech guy' forum. You may need to read it to see everything I had to do to try to fix this. Keep in mind this was before I had to do what I ended up restoring it to factory settings.

    https://forums.techguy.org/threads/i-was-told-to-post-here-help-i-guess.1171645/

    (I'm AlwaysScrewed in that forum)

It got to the point where I was told to restore my laptop to factory settings to fix it. Which I did. I even installed Windows 7 Service Pack 1, which I didn't have previously, and updated it to the most recent updates.

I didn't have the issue for awhile, but now, it is starting up again.

This is annoying and I don't want to restore to factory settings AGAIN because I already did that once. The restarting is annoying as well.

I really don't know what the issue is or how to fix it, and I can't afford a whole new laptop. If someone on here could help me fix this for good, I would really appreciate it.

    Thank you.

The problem is that you're running an extremely outdated operating system that there is no longer any support for.

So... yeah. You might just be screwed.

    Huh?

I'm still getting updates for Windows 7 though. How does that mean there isn't any support for it anymore?

    Misunderstanding on my part.
I read a while back that Microsoft stopped mainstream support for Windows 7 last year, but didn't realize they were still fixing security issues until 2020.

I'd rather not sorry. Plus that still leaves the issue of Avast not virus scanning when Windows Media Player breaks.

Also it used to happen randomly but it's happened 2 days in a row now.

I seriously need a fix for this...

Have you tried uninstalling the program, then reinstalling it?

Nope. I tried something else that was suggested and the issue has yet to reoccur as of yet.

But before it took awhile before it started to occur again so we'll see if it worked or not. If it shows up again that will be one of the next steps I will try.

Unfortunately the issue reared it's ugly head again today. So I went to the next step and re-registered files through Command Prompt.

The next step is to try uninstalling and reinstalling.

Here are links to what I was given to try from another forum.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/mats/windows_media_player_diagnostic?wa=wsignin1.0

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...n/28edb160-51ae-49dd-9f17-5e3f32a9834f?auth=1

I'm trying the second link first before I resort to the first link.

Maybe it's hinting for you to update to Windows 10?
A lot of my program problems were fixed after I updated to Windows 10.

If I do that, I'd might as well buy a completely new laptop. Which I may have no alternative to do if none of these 'fixes' work.

Because I've had too many problems with my current laptop and free upgrade is ending soon. I'm not confident that it would fix the problem either.

Had to do the uninstall and reinstall method today after the issue screwing up the Windows Updates that came out today. Still installed them all though. It just took longer than it should have.

Well it happened again and I can't even run the 'Fix It' thing.

    It says this:

Failed to create the portable diagnostic tool

We were unable to download the necessary components from our server.

Please ensure you are connected to the Internet, and then click the Retry button to try again.

I am connected to the internet just fine through FireFox.

I can't deal with this issue anymore and since no one seems to be able to help me that leaves me no choice but to buy a new laptop altogether. Thanks.
