Because of the Tortilla. That is what changes and everyone complains about. Not the content of it. Mexican tortillaa are soft and not crunchy, while US' tacos are. That is it.
Because it's not made properly. Not only does it contain far less cocoa than European-style chocolate, it's made with foul-tasting sour milk to increase the shelf life of the candy.
Okay, I get that. But what they seem to be forgetting is that crunchy tacos were invented in Texas... by Mexican immigrants.
You ever had authentic Italian pizza? It's good. It's also BORING AS *squee!*!!! American pizza is awesome! You can put whatever the *squee!* you want on it! Pepperoni and sausage? *squee!* YEAH! Do it! Chicken and barbecue sauce? *squee!* YEAH! Go for it! Anchovies and pineapple? *squee!* YEAH! Best drunk food ever! Chocolate chip cookies and haggis? WHY THE *squee!* NOT?! LOAD THAT *squee!*ER UP! EXTRA *squee!*ING CHEESE!!!
that doesn't mean that it's authentic. they weren't mexican citizens anymore, so it would still be an american invention. well, maybe they were still technically mexican citizens. who knows at this point in time whether the majority of them had the proper documents or not.
were they? just because they were mexican immigrants doesn't mean they'd use the traditional methods. and I feel like the crunchy shell would call for somewhat different flavors than a soft tortilla.... Zer, now it sounds like you're just being difficult.
As close as they could get with what they had available. Also, did you know that the reason many tropical, subtropical, and desert countries use bold and flavorful spice palettes is because they often had to cover the taste of spoiled meat?
I don't know how the taco was introduced to the US and why like that, but it became a staple of how the tacos were slowly introduced into the rest of the US and became used to it. Mexicans use hard tortillas (we call them tostadas) but work differently since they are not u shaped but flat and are considered a completely different food from tacos. This can apply to Mexico as well. The way we make the tacos had become something that became used to all over the nation.
So today, in addition to the typical bull*squee!* I put up with from the immigrants at work, I also found out that the taco truck guys have been charging a gringo tax. I'm really, really, really pissed off at Mexicans right now.
Not the way they're doing it. Basically, instead of overcharging the non-Mexicans, they've been giving the Mexican guys a regular "discount." It's unethical as *squee!*, but perfectly legal. Hell, it's even improving their business among the Mexicans.
