The first Last to Post thread had no rules, and no definite way to win. After a lot of spam and RP-ing, the thread was locked. The second thread, started by former member SirSPT, introduced the current rules, where a winner is declared after three days with no posts. In that round, several former members and myself created a freeform casual RP/general conversation format, and a large cast of unique characters. Eventually, that round ended (I won) and the RP died as the other participants left the site. After a while, one of them returned long enough to restart the RP, and we brought in new members. Everything was going well for a time, but eventually, history repeated itself and the RP died again. Now we're trapped in an endless cycle of spam and picture-posting, and everything that was good is dead forever.
I thought we could post whatever we wanted. (IT IS THE LAST TO POST THREAD AFTER ALL!) It doesn't have to be just RP, ya know. We are you guys taking this so seriously, it's just a fun silly game.
True, we can post whatever we want, but I personally found the game more enjoyable when there was more to it than just spamming the thread.
People will do whatever they want to win, this is why I honestly do find it quite irritating when people get pissy at me just because I'm not doing what they want me to do in the thread. I'm not an RP-er so good luck getting me to do that and I'm not one for long conversations so I just pop in say something random or post pictures.
Oh also the reason CG was "killed" was because of people not taking part in other ares of the forum. Sure the hugs and stuff turned away new members we did get but I dont remember saying posting pictures killed it. What really killed it in the end was the lack of participation and then google only kept lowering the rankings due to the lack of forum activity to the point where it takes tons of google pages just to find us. But no one would understand that because I've explained this tons of times and still no one seems to understand.
It's not about long conversations, it's about random stuff. One moment we're talking about politics and next we're talking about What makes better bacon, the Pig Demons from Dragon Quest, or Miss Piggy. Having tried both, Demonic bacon is better. I never want to touch another Miss Piggy bacon again. So nasty.
Bloody. *squee!*ing. HELL. No. Just stop, dammit. The reason CG died is because NOBODY COULD FIND IT.
Can if im a shadow pony coz them im just shadows which is aflickering in the light huhuhu so, we need more ponies to do some rp's
Okay since you clearly did not understand what I said and I even made a status about this. Do you not *squee*ing understand what google rankings are ? Do you know what crawl bots are. Do you know what SEO optimization is. Does any of this ring a bell. Do you have any freaking clue how to drive traffic to a site because I do and guess what a large part of what drives people to a site relies on the founder bringing friends they know to the forum and those friends being active because you see crawl bots if your site has activity it is visited by crawlbots for different search engines. As more of these bots visit your site your ranking will go up and you will be pushed further up in page. Believe it or not before I rebranded to cloudsdale gathering the previous name of the site PonyTheaters was on the front page so please tell me how back then the site was still dying because clearly you know everything about how MY forum failed. I should also add I paid for advertisement too and was and still am using my forums logo as my signature I am also a member on a forum thats sole purpose is to premote your forum.
No, I don't know EVERYTHING about why your forum failed, but it's clear that you don't either. The first fact that you're overlooking is that EP is a small forum. Tiny, in fact. Any advertisement you do here only reaches a small audience, and that audience already has a pony forum. This one. It's the marketing equivalent of trying to sell a cheeseburger to a guy who's currently eating one. As for the rest of it, I've said it multiple times. This is not as large a fandom as some people believe. Most people who have any desire to take part in an MLP forum already have one, and the very few who are actively looking can not find CG, because it is no longer as easy to find as PT was. That is why new members were rare, and why the site eventually slowed to a crawl. No, I'm not an expert in computers, but I do know marketing, and I know that you can't sell to people who aren't buying.
