Thank you. I was wondering when someone would get around to asking this. As it stands now, our biggest partner in Asia is China, a communist country with vastly different ideals and traditions. Russia and the United States are both predominantly Christian democracies and have heavily European-influenced cultures. Both have vast a vast wealth of natural resources and are capable of being self-sustaining. More importantly, both countries have massive, well-funded militaries, which makes the idea of the two ever going to war a truly terrifying prospect. That's pretty much my main reason, and I'm not saying that we should completely cut ties with China. I'm just saying that Russia and the States have a lot to offer each other if we could just stop bickering.

So because we're christian and European in origin, youre willing to overlook all the stuff Russia does with killing dissendents, propping up Assad, attempting to undermine the West's democratic process, etc etc etc? also, we've TRIED to be friendly with Russia, remember the 2008 'reset'? Look where that got us. Putin has too much to gain from keeping us as a boogeyman to retain his stranglehold on Russia than allying with us. And just because we arent allies doesnt mean we're going to go to war. We made it through the COLD WAR without a single shot exchanged between US and Russian troops, I think we can manage to continue to not go to war in the current political climate.
Not a bad idea at this point. I apologize for the part I played in letting it get this far. And I'd hoped that we could just once have a serious discussion on this site without people getting pissed off. I was wrong. So maybe it's time to put this thread out of everyone's misery.
I might disagree with that decision. Maybe we all need to practice serious discussion without getting bent out of shape, less this happen again in the future.
Afraid that's not going to happen anytime soon. If there's one constant with politics, it's that someone's always going to be irritated at someone else. It's one of the reasons why I try to stay out of things like those as much as possible.
