Your Opinion: Is Trump actually damaging the USA or is everyone misconstruing it?

Honestly, thats a good thing. The AHCA is a piece of garbage that will leave millions uninsured and cut thousands off the subsudies people recieve from the ACA, Trump's budget are horrible (like wanting (1/4 cuts to the state department, 1/3 cuts to the EPA, 1/5 cuts to education, etc. Plus the wall, which would be tens of billions of dollars for essentially a symbol as it would do nothing to stop immigration). He also hasnt one thing he promised to do that was positive, like wanting a term limit for congress for example.
Pluuus considering how (actual) scandal-less Obama was...

With unemployment and the stock markets, that wasnt Trump. That's just how the economy has been for about a year now. Well, the stock market was partially Trump as businesses really wanted that 15% business tax rate cute (which, btw, would totally screw the US budget). A president's effect on the economy isnt truly felt for a year after the start of his policies.
Wont argue over the illegal immigration, but do remember, Trump hasnt exactly been following the legal standards needed...hes even deported DREAMers despite promising not to.
And TPP is was not that bad. I read the whole damn thing and it more or less would have basically forced most of the east asian nations to start adopting tons of US regulations. If youre referring to the investor-state dispute courts, those were also overblown. They were simply for if a country was discriminating against foriegn businesses (i.e. the nation subsudizing domestic businesses but heavily taxing foriegn ones and such). While I personally dont agree with the idea that it would have been even cheaper to move production and such to Vietnam, TPP also would have allowed us to pull the nations involved fully into our economic orbit, instead of China's.

 

The main problem with that is something like 37% of people in that election have already voted in early voting, so it's unlikely to change the result of the election

 

I lived in Montana from 1995-2002.

Folks there aren't like they are in more urban states. They don't take *squee!* from anyone, and they're not afraid to kick some ass when it needs kicked.

If anything, kickin' the crap out of some clueless city boy reporter will HELP him in the election.

Yeah, you're probably right. The assault charge wouldn't hurt his chances, but being one of them damn Californians sure will.

 

Either way, it isn't justified. It was a reporter doing his job with asking the dude questions. Just because he's a 'city boy' or Gianforte is from Montana or California or New Jersey doesnt justify attacking someone for doing their job. And all the other reporters said the journalist was doing nothing strange or aggressive.

 

I'm not saying it was justified. There aren't a lot of good reasons to strike another person.
I don't know all the details. Maybe he had a good reason to hit the guy. It kinda sounded like it wasn't the first time they'd met.

But, like I said, I do know Montana. It's different out there, and folks are a lot quicker to their fists.
It's basically the last bastion of the Wild West, sometimes.

 

Dont get too worried yet, remember, it does have to pass Congress, and I doubt something that sweeping would be able to past muster given how fractured the Republicans have been acting with major legislation (case in point; the AHCA)

 

Interstate tolls are *squee!*, but a FAIR toll for rest areas isn't a bad idea. I wouldn't have a problem shelling out a buck or two if it meant nicer bathrooms and better (working) vending machines.

True enough. But if it were set too high, then people would drive right on by without stopping, and the rest area wouldn't be profitable enough to remain open.

This is one case where the old "the market sets the price" argument should hold up.

 

Tell that to people who have to pay tolls and such. Yes there will still be a cap to how much the companys can charge but I feel like it would.more than likely end up being more than a buck or two (which is already ridiculous for just using a bathroom and walking a bit), but arguing the level of the tolls is not the point of this thread anywho.

I'm a bit curious about that too.
The original plan, if I recall, was to withdraw from the multinational climate change deals and instead redirect those funds to environmental protection in the United States.
