So why is this in Serious discussion, cause I posted an except from this and people claimed it was paid for by the oil companies. So when I was lucky enough to stumble on the full episode, I figured why not share it so it could be properly discussed in full context. Also one thing Adam gets wrong, is the Paris Accord was not a Treaty.
I honestly barely made it 2 minutes into that video before it got too bad. First off; CollegeHumor should not be something you base your political or any opinions on, same goes for any comedian Secondly; Yes, people doing small things like picking trash up is important, unlike that first point the video tries to make. And while plastic at a landfill will likely never go away, it's less dangerous to the enviroment there as it has a significantly smaller chance of killing animals who decide to eat it. Honestly, after that, Im just...not going to bother with that video. It's obviously biased, tries to demean people for thinking they can help the planet (which, news flash, they can), and again, is a comedy sketch not meant for serious consumption.
Remember what you said about me reading your whole post before commenting? Watch the whole video, then call him BS. Adam is a comedian yes, but he takes things serious and tries to relate the information in a humorous and simple way so that people understand his point. This show is meant to be educational. He states his sources so your free to look them up yourself.

The point of this topic is to discus the video in it's entirety. If you're not even going to watch the video why are you even commenting? Adam Ruins everything may have started on College Humor but it's now aired on Tru TV. I get that the Youtube video isn't the best quality, he does give references for his opinions. Do I think Adam is right about everything, hell no. Do I think he may have a point on certain things yes. Just because he's a comedian doesn't mean he doesn't research his opinion. It doesn't mean he's a idiot to be ignored. Again I said it clearly in the first post the point of this topic is to discuss the entirety of the video in the context of the episode. If your not even going to watch the episode, then you don't have anything to add to the discussion.

A comedian can't be educational my ass. "School House Rock", "Bill Nye the Science Guy", bloody "Sesame Street" these are all shows that try to make learning fun. So what if he's a comedian. He give his sources, the information isn't just made up.
He didnt 'give' his sources. He provided 0 links other than things like 'according to slate.com'. No article links or anything. There was no links at the end or in the description.

He's not relying on opinion alone. The show states it's sources for several facts along the way. Granted the quality of the video makes them hard to read, but they are there.
Actually, Lioconvoy is right. They do give sources and most of the stuff in there is pretty much correct as I understand it. Even if the bit about walking anywhere and buying food is bloody annoying because of stuff other people are doing! I understand the point but do you have to paint something like walking to a place as 'sinful' just because of all this indirect stuff. What I do find offensive is the tone and the comedy. I think I laughed once and found the thing to feel borderline propaganda-like. I get their point but I want to punch the smug sod in the face. I'm certain it's intentional but the god damn 'Green Dad' character is equally worthy of an uppercut too. The only joke to get a giggle was the 'And the cow goes 'Moo'' line, if only because it's a little daft. Everything else either alienated me or felt like I was a child. There was a clear strawman for Adam to set up then spend 20 minutes stomping into the ground. And Adam seemed to have such glee in explaining just why he, and by extension the audience, were ignorant morons. Does everything on US TV treat you like this? How do you stand it?! It's blunt. That's fine. It's also honest. OK. But it saves itself by at least suggesting something pro-active to do in the face of total gloom and doom. Honestly, it's not bad from a fact basis but if it wasn't for that bloody ending I'd have such seething hate for this thing right now.
I have a problem with claiming he sourced it. All I ever heard for sources was "according to [insert site here]". I never saw any actual links. If Im overlooking said links to the articles he's sourcing, please feel free to link them
I agree. I have no problem with the people who did the video. What I have a problem with is that there's no legitimate links, other then "He said, she said". That's not fact, that's opinion

They seem to rely on a lot of case studies and such which are inherently unreliable. While I wont deny that personal choices arent nearly as big as making sure industry follows changes towards being green, to suggest that personal choice is meaningless like the video does is misleading.
