One idea that came up in the site improvement thread is the possibility of expanding Everypony into the gaming community. Obviously, this would represent a huge change to a site that many of us have invested years into, so this is not a decision that can be made without discussion.
You heavily misunderstood. Opening up to more communities will not replace the core of what the community already is, we are just planning on doing some gaming related things to bring more gamer bronies to EP, not a complete overhaul turning it into a gaming brony site.
I think you're very much underestimating the impact such a change would have on the site. A brand lives or dies by how it's marketed. If you're serious about attracting gamers to the site, then you'd have to make the site more attractive to gamers. That would entail adding things that gamers would want. A few servers for the more popular games like Gmod or Minecraft would be an obvious step. We already have a Discord server, so that'd just be a simple matter of adding a few text and voice channels to accommodate gaming. If you truly want to bring gamers to the site, you have to change the site into something that a gamer would want to join. This isn't something that can be half-assed.
Said it before, I'll say it again. I'm not a brony. I think the show overall sucks. I love EG, but the normal show just isn't for me. I'm here for the people, however if the people change, I could easily be gone. The site changes it changes.
I don't think overhauling the site to cater to a specific group that isn't already a party of this community is a good idea. Adding more gaming related activities or sections to the site would be better. Changing the core of the site doesn't fit the Everypony moniker. It should be for Everypony, not Everypony (as long as you are a gamer).
That is not really the case, we don't have to re-brand the site, it will still stay everypony, no changes will be made to the core site itself. However if we stream and have game nights it will make people see the everypony name more and decide to visit.
Agree to disagree on this one. I'll I'm saying is that if you want gamers to join and stick around, the site would have to be something that fits a typical gamer's tastes.
I honestly don't believe that adding any of the aforementioned features would be taking away from what is already established. It doesn't sound like a matter of re-branding the site to cater ONLY to gamers. It seems, to me at least, more like making it more inclusive to that part of the fandom for what we already have going on. I mean, there is an entire section dedicated to RP but that doesn't mean that this is strictly a role playing forum. I've been around only slightly longer than Rid so I can't say for sure whether or not that was part of the original forum but I think having a gaming related section would serve its own purpose like the RP section does rather than turn the whole site into that type of forum.
