What is hate? Is it just not liking something? Is it being disapproving of ideas and belief? Is it just pure anger? What is love? Baby don't hurt me. All joking aside, what is it? Does it control who we are? Is the opposite of hate, or is it the same thing? How is it expressed? Please, give examples of love and hate, and opinions of what it means. Plus, I would be interested to hear what y'all did to prevent anger from exploding. As a hated person, I know what it is to hate and to take hate. However, I have been loved, so I know what it is to love and to take love. Love sucks. Anyway, what are love and hate? All replies will be accepted, even trolls. Yay trolls.
I think this is appropriate.
Love; It is that which hate is not. Hate; An abstract meaning arbitrarily attached to a word. It represents a primal urge to be repulsed by A single object, idea, ideology, concept or person. That is the way I see it.
Love and hatred are complex emotional constructs that both encompass a wide range of other emotions. Love is a feeling of adoration; a feeling of attraction. You feel tied to what you love and desire to connect with it at all costs. Hatred is the same in the other direction. A feeling of repulsion; a feeling of distaste. You feel like you must break yourself from what you hate and desire to destroy it at all costs. The other major difference? Love stems from being open and empathetic; hatred stems from being closed and narrow-minded. In the end, only one leads to positive change: love.
Ok I guess I should actually put some decent input on this instead of just linking "What is love" I think hate and love can be seen the same as cold and heat. There's no such thing as cold, simply a lack of heat. I think the same thing could be said for hate or love, depending whichever way you look at it. I personally look at hate as a a complete lack of affection or any kind emotion. It sort of works more as a question of "is the glass half full or half empty" at this point. However I don't like only looking at it in a black and white sort of way, I prefer the grey. It depends on what's in the glass really.
I walked into this thread expecting nothing but randomness. And there was a bit at first, but then it was followed by an actual discussion. I...I'm not certain how one defines exactly what love is, but what I do know is that I'm in love with this forum.
Sorry I can't really post in this thread, to me hate is just a weapon that is focused into a spear and thrown towards my enemies. Love, yeah not even going to go there it's personal.
Quite the contrary I think it goes hand in hand with the point you're trying to make. While I believe hate is the absence of any kindness or love towards another there are many things that can trigger such as thing. When you don't know a person you don't have an impression of them and so it's a blank slate, they still have some of your kindness because it's just normal. Other emotions such as anger, spite, envy, and fear towards a person gets rid of this kindness and develops into hate. Again it's all about how you look at the glass.
Probably off topic, and I know there is no such thing as the perfect analogy. But cold is not the absence of heat, like darkness is not the absence of light, they are just varying vibrations of particles and waves
Well, who's going to start the new "Cold and Heat" thread? And for those who find hate and love too personal, allow me to start: Once upon a time, I fell in love with a beautiful girl. We started dating after she asked me out, and we lasted about a few months, before she told me she's done. It was a stormy day, amd we were in Phys Ed when she told me I'm much too boring, and so she left. That made me laugh, so I just went on with life, and we both lived happily ever after. As for hate: Once upon a time, a tiny Ahole started a fight with me, so I turned around and almost knocked him out. However, I was given detention for this, even he'd though this is the only time I've done anything, and it was not the same for him. So, I hated him. Then, he forged a note that got me suspended, and then we both lived angrily ever after. The End.
Hatred and love are abstract words whose meaning is contextual. In other words: To hate spinach is to think it tastes badly; to hate exercise is to feel lazy about working out; to hate statism is to feel a certain resigned frustration and dread for the future. And that's only if you feel about spinach, exercise, and statism like I do. Aside from being contextual, they're also personal ^w^
Love and hate belong to a human being. Animals live by means of instintcs. Human beings live by means of abstract emotions and feelings; for example Love and hate. Love makes you feel full of happiness Hate makes you feel full of anger
Love = An extreme like of someone/something. Hate = An extreme dislike of someone/something. Yep, I'm a realist.
I don't think there's one right answer to what Love and hate mean. Everyone's answer is right, as long it is their genuine Opinion on the matter.
Oh well, I'm a realist too. That just means that everything hate and love can meaningfully be made to mean exists. It doesn't mean all words (signs) have to be significant of only one meaning
