Season 2: Episode 8: The Mysterious Mare Do Well Spoiler: Summary The Mysterious Mare Do Well There is a new masked hero in Ponyville who is stealing Rainbow Dash's thunder.
Looks like an interesting plot, I just hope Rainbow Dash's character is handled well. She was fine last episode, but I've noticed the writers have been leaning dangerously close to the "pretentious, self-centered brat" personality lately, and I really hope RD isn't turned into that kind of a character. But, otherwise, I'm really excited for this one. MOAR TANK PLZ!
If that mare turns out to be Derpy I'm going to laugh so hard. Edit: Of cours that won't happen 'cause derpy's just a background pony and stuff, I know
I have to say I liked this episode much. It has that thing, that special touch what season 1 episodes had a lot. It showed Rainbow Dash, at her personality (much better then in "May The Best pet Win"), but still show her soft side, that she has some feelings on her own. Also, I guessed that during that dam problem that Meritorious mare was Twilight, but wings then confused me, but I tought she maybe put spell on herself so she'd have wings. but I was 1/3 right after all. overall great episode, I really liked it and enjoyed it
Once I saw the part with the dam, at first I thought it was Trixie. :Trollestia: Sethisto is disappointed Then the wings showed up, so I thought who else could use magic as well. So I figured it was the others who planned this. Rarity obviously being the one making the outfits AJ/PP/FS/TS playing the role. Kinda... :derpe: ____ Also I find out they are putting Derpy like in every episode... I just saw Derpy in this episode as well.
This was an excellent episode, and a fitting reconciliation of RD's more arrogant side. Spoiler: Spoiler My first guess for the identity of Mare-Do-Well was Pinkie. After the dam I thought it must be a new character, since I'd ruled out Twilight because she'd been a bystander earlier. But then wings+horn gave it away as the rest of the Mane 6.
Hey look! It's an accurate representation of the Brony community! I kid, I kid. Still, you gotta wonder where the writers came up with the idea for the opening scene.
I jest don't get how when they first say Mare Do Well. They new it was a mare and not a stallion. I mean how cud they tell?
T'was a good episode. I guessed that it was the other 5 when mysterious mare had used her magic, and then knew for sure how it would go when she suddenly had wings. One thing that did annoy me was that we didn't hear rainbows letter.
Rainbow Dash fanclub . I think the writers are aware of her popularity. I first guessed Mare Do Well was Applejack, but after the magic and the wings, I thought it must be an alicorn, which suggests Luna. I did not see who it actually was coming at all. Great episode, the only thing that could have made it better was if Mare Do Well was Trixie . And of course hearing Rainbow's letter. Extremly much action in this episode though, which is awesome. Edit. Forgot to mention the Batman references. Pony+Batman=Win.
Since in the other episodes Rainbow Dash wasn't particularly busy saving ponies, and given the apparently large number of catastrophes in a typical day in Ponyville... the death rate must be kind of high. :/
I liked the inclusion of so many different background ponies in this episode, because it makes it seem like Ponyville has a lot more depth to it than maybe what I thought it had before. I think the moment I realized Mare Do Well was the rest of the mane six was when she used magic to put the dam back together, because it made me think that she could be Twilight, but that the whole stopping the carriage scene looked way too much like apple bucking for it to be her. Then the whole flying thing confirmed it for me. To be critical for a moment, I think Rainbow Dash learned two lessons in a row that were too similar to one another, not to mention the fact that they were in consecutive episodes. You know I think your cool RD, but how many times are we going to have to pop your overinflated ego before it stops getting bigger than yourself at the drop of a hat? On another note, it was nice to see the Pinkie sense make a return.
Overall: A fantastic episode. We got to see so many new background ponies, pony retirement village, and a baby pony. We also got some more fluttershy.. even if its a small amount. Also, The mane six being the mare was fantastic. Made me feel warm inside. Cant wait for next week.
The elderly ponies were nice to see too! But man, there must be some faulty construction in Ponyville! o.o; I wonder if they have building safety codes in place. Rainbow seemed to have a bit of Trixie in her this episode. Great, now we'll be seeing RainbowTrix ships and a lucky charm joke that involves both of them on the box in the bowl. Then there'll be a phrase on the box that says "It's Magically Delicious!" x'D
