I know I must sound like a complete idiot, but I'm colourblind. I've gone through the entire series of Friendship is Magic without even doubting that Princess Celestia is white. I know the Celestia toy is the wrong colour, but I noticed some people saying they 'exaggerated' her colour, not just got it plain wrong. Is she white as I thought? Or a very light shade of pink?
What Test said. They made the Celestia toy pink because previous toy sales indicated that pink toys simply sold better than white ones among young girls. So they went with that. But yeah, Celestia is actually white.

Nope, wrong answer, buddies. Celestia's NOT white. Reason: the animation shows her as white because its color scheme is rather limited. She's actually a very pale tone of lavender, THIS ONE IF YOU'RE WONDERING hence why the toys portrait her as pink. They actually forgot to ask this to the animators, but then, well... Now she's taken as white by the people.

Jett: I usually draw her as a pale lavender instead of white because of that. I won't paint her white and follow the idiocy because the animation and the toys at this point suck like crap. =P but oh well. They can't even have a proper shading because it would cost tons. You cannot do this in flash unless there's an episode monthly or once fifteen days instead of weekly.
Nope. The Celestia toy is more pink instead of the whiter color she is portrayed as in the show because pink figures sell better among the younger audience. I confirmed this. Or that's at least part of the reason for the toy itself anyway. I'll link this video here. I confirmed it by two places, one is this video. They talk about it at about 7:10 into the video. As for Celestia actually being a light lavender. I had forgotten about that, but it rings a bell now that you mention it. Either way though, I consider her white now myself. I personally like her white over light lavender. Most likely mainly because that's what we've grown accustomed to now from the show. Plus when I think of a God-like and royal being like Celestia, white is just one of the major colors that seem to come to mind and be suiting.
Derpy H00ves: While I high-hoofed about the show-toy audience thing, I must say I think that color-combos are god-like, but not necessarily a color alone. But you're right, white suits more than lavender, especially with that mane and tail.
Luprony: Celestia's actually light lavender. THIS COLOR IF YOU'RE WONDERING But since the animation has a limited range of colors, she looks white to our eyes (and fandom deemed her white since then). But nobody told that to the toymakers, hence why her dolls are pink.
I could only see that by highlighting it, other wise it just looks blank to me. That's the problem with being colourblind, you have to take people's word for things like this. Thanks for confirming her colour though. I still won't be able to see it, it's just for closure, really.
No problem. As Grey said himself, of all shades of pink they chose the lightest shade only to make things worse. At least we can all have this instead of the fugly doll with plastic mane and tail.
Hmm, i prefer the earlier version, because that one has a too dark mane - It doesn't really fit Celestia. Still nicely done. Maybe she could have tinted it a bit to get pink shadows instead of the grey ones... But i see she did something like that. She should experiment a bit more. And to find the answer to everypony's color - Don't look into the body - look into the outline.
