I think the reasoning behind Spike being extremely unruly during his growth spurt is that he is confused and angered (its his first real birthday and doesn't know how to control his temptations). You have to remember that his previous birthdays were probably quite dull since Twilight was his only friend and care giver. Also you have to assume that the Dragonshy dragon is much more older and mature than Spike, even in Spike's grown stage. Think of Spike going through his adolescent years, rebelling and smashing everything in his path, are probably common for a dragon's growth. As far as intelligence goes, I think Spike is actually more intelligent in terms of caring for others, friendship, and is good at learning from his mistakes. He has Twilight to teach him valuable life lessons, while a mother dragon would probably have kicked Spike out by now. The Dragonshy dragon seems to be more instinctual - protecting his cave from intruders, until he learns it is he that has intruded and leaves without much conflict. Can't say the same about the "Owl's Well That Ends Well" dragon. He was really mean and nasty toward Spike and EXCEPTIONALLY greedy, and clearly wants to be isolated from everything.
I guess every dragon is different. If that's how dragons are supposed to mature, maybe it needs to be a lot slower or you turn out like that dragon in "Owl's Well That Ends Well"...
Well, I watched it again in bed. That falling scene... still made me get goosebumps... and teary eyed. ;_; Spikety is best ship. Just. So adorable~ /)^3^(\
I´m waiting for derpy´s episode. I think it´s going to be the episode number 15 but I´m not sure... http://mylittlefacewhen.com/f/337/
I thought there was only a synopsis for up to episode 12 "Family Appreciation Day" Or are you just guessing? :derpe:
A Derpy episode could be interesting, but the fandom would probably implode no matter what, unless it was REALLY, REALLY well-done. I'd probably enjoy it no matter what since I'm not really THAT attached to fanon. Although for some reason the only voice I can imagine for her is Ellen Degeneres (probably because she voiced Dory in Finding Nemo). :derpe:
I think a Derpy episode would be a great idea. She is nearly seen in every episode now, and I think its only a matter of time before she gets a role (at least). I'm still not sure if they will use Derpy Hooves as her name, or Ditzy Doo (the "featherbrained" pony mentioned in Winter Wrap-up). Of course that could have been a different pony mentioned for the sake of the humor.
A Derpy episode would probably be a bit of a base breaker; half the fandom would love that Derpy gets a day in the spotlight, but the other half would probably see it as pandering, or get annoyed if Derpy isn't portrayed how they imagined her. As for this episode, I quite enjoyed it, which is odd, because I'm not really a fan of Spike. His evil grin/laugh seemed like a subtle callback to Owl's Well That Ends Well, which is interesting, and the King Kong reference was fun. It was sweet that it addressed the Spikity romance as well, although I doubt it'll go beyond what we saw in this episode; there's some continuity in MLP, but they still tend to hit the reset button to an extent by the end of each episode.
I think an episode with more than one background pony playing a lead role would be better. Episode Title: From the Background to the Front (2 Parter) Episode Plot: The six ponies that represent the Elements of Harmony have gone missing and no one has seen them for over a week. This somehow causes Dr. Whooves/Ditzy Doo, BonBon/Lyra, and Octavia/Vinyl Scratch to team up and find out what happend to the six girls. They might will find them if each of the 2-pony groups of the six ponies can stop figting eachother. Lesson Learnd: Even if you and your friends don't agree on much or even get into a fight, your friendship can be more powerful that your disagreements.
The only problem with this idea is , that the background ponies become mane cast, and you can't just place em back in the background after such a spotlight...
A Day in the Limelight episode for background ponies COULD be interesting, but it would be just as potentially controversial as a Derpy-centric episode. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but it would be even more difficult to pull off the more background ponies were involved. Unless the newly formed canon from that episode was just as acceptable as any fanon (which most agree canon Luna turned out to be, which is probably why the fandom didn't implode after "Luna Eclipsed" aired), people would be angry. :L
Yes, I think a background pony episode probably would impact the fandom, because of the differences between what the creators will decide to be canon and what is fanon. However, a Derpy episode could be done, because the producers know about Derpy, and probably have learned about the personality the fandom has given her.
