First of all, I know "Haters gonna hate" yada yada...

...Now, onto the subject of the matter I am just about to type, I told a friend that I'm a fan of the show.
So, you may be now thinking that because I put that famous internet phrase at the beginning of the thread post, the results of this conversation with this chap, wasn't at all good.

If so, you are wrong, but nor are you right if you thought the latter. I'm going to make this seemingly large anecdote as small as possible, but I can't promise anything. It's a long story.
    So, here we go!

Back in the summer holidays around about August time I was outside conversing with two friendly chappies who have a residence on my small road. The conversation came to a pause... and somehow the topic changed to the internet. Grasping the conversation with the opportunity I had, I slowly came into the realm of the new trends. I wanted to subtly mention bronies to arouse their intrigue, as I was alone and still am, being the only brony, to my knowledge, in my village/town.
Well, all was well, I explained vaguely, like I had never watched it, so that they wouldn't jump to any conclusions. I stated that I had watched the pilot episodes of season 1 and I thought it was "ok". Lucky for me, this sparked their intrigue and they watched the first episode. The first friend, didn't give a toss. He thought it was ok and never returned to it, even to this day. Obviously, I had no problem with this.
Onto the next chum! Well, his views (and still are today) puzzling. He, and I quote, said "who would watch this demonic abomination?!". At first I chuckled, said "Fair enough." and it fell dead for a few weeks.

Suddenly, ponies! He brought it up in a conversation over xbox once and it was still the same "omg this iz crap lol". Then the puzzling side to his hate came up and this is what confused me. He sent me 4 links to YouTube videos all related to ponies, I could hear him "rofl'ing" over the mic... Ok, so he finds some of the poops and parodies funny (ponies anthology, APPLE.MOV and Friendship is Magnets). Then I sent him a link to bronies.memebase and then 30 minutes later it's 1am and he's on page 20 chuckling to himself. He laughed at pony memes related to episodes he hadn't even seen.
Yes, yes, you may be thinking that he was secretly watching episodes under my nose, I thought this too...

...but today sealed my thoughts. He tagged along on my paper out today and he sort of knew I liked it and asked the question "who's your favourite?". Now, I couldn't say Rarity, as he doesn't know the names too well, so I have to go to basics and I replied with "the white one". Now, only seeing the pilots he wondered why. Mainly because in both pilots Rarity is seen as a girly-girl, fashion-obsessed lunatic, so then to end his confusion I said that she changes throughout the season. So he then guessed that I had watched all the episodes and after that I told him everything.

After a long time explaining why the show appeals to me and how it has reminded me of a few lessons that I had forgotten. I mentioned the community, this forum (not the name) and how everyone on here is awesome. Obviously, reverting back to the first sentence, he wasn't convinced. The word "*squee!*" entered our conversation and the only time I uttered the word was when I counter-argued. The next thing was that he thought I had changed, said he "had respect for me". I then replied with "<name of friend>, I have been a brony for months, you never noticed before, nor did you change respect for me, so how is it that when I tell you, it suddenly makes all the difference and now you see me as changed?".

After that, he didn't say much, said sorry and apologised for being harsh and the rest of it all faded into a "see you later" with a little pun from him "Hey Matt? See ya later, yay or neigh?"... oh, how he confuses me...

    ----------------------------------------------

Well, to first state, I'm not all too bothered. I said not to tell anyone, and he's good like that, I can trust him with that. But yeah, I'm not too bothered. I feel like I won the argument in the end, but.. meh. I just wanted your say on this, now more than ever how that was a pain to type up. ESSAY AHOY!
Much more happened in the last bit, but I'm going to be honest, I just can't be arsed to type anymore. :derpe:
If you want to know more, (highly doubt it) then just ask.

    Modern society at its best.
People are just so afraid of being Politically Incorrect or Different, I think Saikyo's newest thread addresses how I feel towards these backwards logic people.
I think he really wants to be involved but the socially accepted norms are keeping him in place, its quite the shame really

I told my best friend about me being a brony. He took it well and watched the first episode. Unfortunately he never watched the 2nd one, which I really think if he did, he would like the show. Because you can't really like the show based on the very first episode. As you know, the first episode doesn't really "show" what makes it awesome. But I can't say I didn't try converting him. I still send him pony pics and videos and he laughs at them, but I don't think he has any interest in watching the show.

...Maybe I'll try to get him to watch Lesson Zero, its a funny episode, but not too cutesy where it will scare him off.

Ah, yes, you reminded me. There were several times where he said "it isn't normal". My only response to that was a little chuckle.

    'ppreciate it, mate!

Anyways, interesting read. Everyone I know knows I'm a brony, and either loves me or hates me for it.
I don't mind the haters. I dealt with them for 5 years on 4Chan. It's not that hard to ignore, for me, at least.

can't tell if he's trolling you (being brony and Trollestia), or he's just trolling you (without being brony)...

I think that image sums it up perfectly. I'll be curious to see what transpires in the next few days/weeks. Brony Troll or Troll Brony. We shall see.

Also: I agree that he may just be afraid to step out of the norm, even if he does find himself enjoying it. It's a really hard thing to do in today's society, unfortunately. :/

I told my friends about it a few months ago (before they became bronies) and all they said was
"Oh cool. I've heard good things about that show, is it good to watch?"

I hope I can get my friend to become a brony too, but I can't seem to get him interested.

Certainly, like you said, I'm not bothered. It's been months, but I guess he's stuck in denial. Nothing more to it, it just puzzled me at first and thought it was an interesting topic to share.

My friend used to not bother, but after I told him everything, he just flipped like a coin.
I cannot put my finger on him, he truly is perplexing.

I haven't told any friends about me being a brony.
But I have given enough signs & hints that I am.
I do believe they already know.
So far, they haven't acted differently with me.
