Mine's not done that. Are you sure there's no option to turn off automatic updates?

There might be, but I haven't looked hard enough to find it.

It's also possible that my computer is doing this just to piss me off.

Mine updated to 10 while the screen was mid-breakdown, so I'm not sure what I did.

In the search, type "services.msc" and scroll down to "Windows Updates. Enter that and select the Startup Type to: "Disabled."

I recommend enabling this every so often for security updates.

Homepage for what browser, by the way? I'm guessing Firefox? AFAIK nothing of the kind has been passed through Windows Updates. Perhaps it was something else?

The search bar next to the Start button, that is.

Also make sure to hit "Stop" or else it'll keep running until you restart the computer, then you'll be fine.
