    You make me lol.
I'm getting my brother a Vinyl Scratch T-Shirt, and a fluttershy shirt.
I'm gonna make him wear the Vinyl one, very subtle indeed, Double.
Then the following week I'm going to make him wear the fluttershy one.

As I type this, he's wildly exclaiming (No! No you aren't!)
It's gonna be a good week, I'm sure.

I’m definitely a closeted brony. I’m pretty terrified to tell anyone that I’m into MLP because I got up the guts to tell my best friend, and she accused me of being a furry for it. (Which I’m definitely not) I don’t understand how liking a show about ponies who try to find out the meaning of having friends and whatnot makes me a furry. Now I’m afraid to tell anyone else.

The sad part is this: I don’t think she even knows the true definition of furry, and she hasn’t even given FiM a chance. She refuses, and she thinks she’s cool for not liking it. Little does she know, she’d be 20% cooler if she DID watch it.

She’s also one of those people who think that just because she knows a little bit about something, she knows everything. It’s dumb, and I’m kind of tired of it, to be completely honest with you. She is my best friend though, and I think she should respect my decisions on what to watch and be interested in just as much as I respect hers.

    I feel ya pegasista.
I've been called fur*squee!* many a time simply because I like MLP. But they are not one in the same.
Now, yes, I am a furry, and quite frankly I don't care what people say about that. I'm not into the disgusting Rule 34 stuff of it, I simply like the art style.
But I was a furry long before MLP even came out; and I didn't like MLP because it involved animals, even if I AM a furry. I loved the show based on it's brilliant quality on many different subjects.
Calling someone a "Fur*squee!*" is not only disrespectful to you, but its also offensive to people who actually like something on the internet. Not to mention many of the gay community /rage at being called that.
That brings up another topic, you're not "Gay" or a "*squee!*" if you like a show about ponies (Unless you are truly Homosexual, and I mean no offense by anything I say) even if the target demographic was for little girls.
I've commonly been called a pedophile as well. People like to assume that things are bad because people like them, especially when most of the fans are 15-40 year old men. That in and of itself gives the wrong idea about the show in the first place; not only does it cause people to think we're crazy, they also begin to doubt our masculinity, sexual orientation, and suspect that we're all pedophiles.
That is a ridiculous assumption. I'm pretty sure if I were gay I wouldn't have a wife, and I'm pretty sure if I was a pedophile, CPS would take Chris away right there.
Good things also give birth to bad things, and people need to understand that most of the "Bad things" aren't true.
(And being gay isn't a bad thing. I know quite a few gay/lesbians myself, and I've got nothing against them.)

Ugh, I totally agree with what you're saying.
Even though I'm not a furry, I have nothing against furries, and their culture. I actually really like the art. C:

But yeah, being a furry and/or liking MLP have nothing to do with being a homosexual. :I I have many, many homosexual friends who HATE mlp and the like .

I was out of the stable pretty much right when I started watching the show my first pony related post on Facebook was "Watching My Little Pony like a baws!!" after the third episode. Now I post something pony related every day almost, and convert some people. I'm going to be wearing a 20% cooler shirt to my first day of school so I'm wondering how people will react. Also I might put together a presentation about the show some time near the end of the year. Of course I get haters on Facebook every day but I just love and tolerate them trying to get them to watch the show and if they still don't like it its fine with me. But if they get really nasty then I just unfriend them. Plus no one really messes with me at school so I wont get picked on or anything because I'm about 1-2 feet taller than everyone. I have been called a Furr*squee!* once but it doesn't really bother me that much. I am kind of like a half furry, I appreciate the culture and think dressing up as animals is pretty cool even though I don't do it. But I try to explain to people that I don't watch the show because I have a sexual attraction to the ponies (all though the human art is pretty cool) I watch it for its animation and story and character building. I simply say "I'm not gay because I like cute things or little animals or rainbows or shows for girls, I would be gay if I like men." and they pretty much stop after I say that

But that's not subtle, remember? It has a pony on it. :p

I wouldn't mind that shirt, except for one thing, and that's the fact it has "RBD" on it. How would I explain that to non-bronies? Especially the weather non-bronies? RBD is "Really Bad Downdraft"? Heh. Or would I have to just admit it? Hmmm...

I've noticed that some members like it when I use the word "balls" because they find it funny. So I figured I'd use it again. I'm glad I did not disappoint. :p

Thank you, and if I do, I will let you know. If you happen to find one first, please let me know. I'd be ever so grateful. :)

I figured it was subtle enough people wouldn't ask but other bronies would get it.

I have been called a pedophile as well, by a stranger. But everyone who knows me, really hasn't said anything negative. I think they just consider this another internet fad I'm following like I always do. Of course this is the most powerful internet fad i've been a part of in my life and I think it has a lot more meaning then that. Also I am hopeful that this is not just a fad and keeps going for a long time.

If this show had nearly any other title such as. Young Horses or Equestria, or Twilight Sparkle and Friends. There would probably be 80% less assumptions made about bronies. I am convinced the title almost alone is what makes people avoid this show and make judgements about people who like it.

Oh jeez. I've seen furries in my day and most bronies are definitely not furries, furries are people who have a sexual interest in anthropomorphic creatures, and last I checked we were fans of a television show that taught friendship and morals, so forget that person who tells you otherwise.

But I can relate to your friend about jumping to conclusions about the show, I use to be a harsh troll to bronies on other forums, but whatever, past is past.

I also love your 20% cooler comment there XD

That's cool dude, I also watch the show for it's morals and plot points.

That's awesome! :D I'm happy to hear you have the courage to do this. :grins:

I will do my best, Epony :]

That's cool, I think I might actually be more open about on Xbox live sooner or later.

I'd just like to make a brief comment on this. I'm not a furry, but after reading about the flak that the furry community receives a few years ago, I decided to, during my free time, look into it to see if the assumptions were true. It turns out, including what you said, is not an accurate representation of the entire furry community. The "*squee!*y" sector is actually the minority. The "fursuiter" sector is just another subset of it as well. It turns out the majority are just interested in anthropomorphic creatures in general, not necessarily in a sexual way. At least, that's what my independent research showed me. There are actually furries in the community that despise the "*squee!*y" sector because that's all anyone thinks about when you mention the word.

It's similar to how people criticize our community for the wrong reasons. They assume we're all unemployed "pedophiles-in-training." I'm sure some of us are unemployed because of scholastic obligations and other reasons, and if there are any pedophiles in the community, we obviously know that has NO CORRELATION WHATSOEVER to being a brony. They're totally unrelated, but trying to convince an outsider of that is nearly a lost cause.

By the way, just like we have the term non-brony for someone outside of the brony community, I believe the term for a non-furry is called a "mundane."

I found out the the RL brony I met through Flankbook in my city is a furry and is a regular attendant of furry meetups. I have no problem with this personally, but I'm worried that my friends might say, well that proves that all bronies are strange in some way. Considering I am mildly autistic, this is hard to argue against. I not abnormal enough to qualify for a pension though. I am the intelligent kind of autistic though, in many ways I am more intelligent then most people I know, I'm just socially awkward, not to brag.

I still want to know who lumped furry and brony into the same category. I suspect /b/ but this is besides the point. In any case, they're often associated with beastiality like we are with pedophelia (sorry, big words and up late don't go together) when it's obvious not all have that interest. The minority might but not all of them do. They're yet another group who end up with the short end. Admittingly, I used to bash on them a few years ago back when I used 4chan but a while ago, I found out one of my friends were a furry and he explained the subculture to me. It's not something I'm interested in but to each their own.

That aside, there are furries who wish not to get lumped in with bronies. I'll go as far to say some even display disgust over the fandom itself. Much like some bronies see furries at nothing but face value at times and get disgusted at that prospect. We're two groups getting hate for the vocal minorities.

Neither group is bad, just horribly misunderstood.

Furries don't have to have sexual interest with "anthropomorphic creatures". Being a furry is dressing up as an animal and going through your every day dresses as the animal. If you have sexual interest with "anthropomorphic creatures" that's called "Furry *squee!*"
