So yeah, as the title suggests i've encountered a hater. Whats annoying though is he claims he doesn't hate the show, but flat out insults the characters and the fanbase, while also acting like i've said and done things i've not actually done. My Deviantart name is Thatguywhosaysnyeh and I was hoping for some feedback on whether Anything I said was wrong or hostile, or whether he's just an unreasonable prat. I honestly try and be above just flat out insults and try and be patient with people like this but his responses... Regarding the furry comment, I wrote that in anger and personally don't see furries as good or bad, I don't actually care. The fact he reacted to it though sort of proves hes a hypocrite if nothing else. Theres just so much I feel is wrong with what he says and the way he acts, and having Aspergers kind of means I can't just let it go - it really has gotten to me, i'm so frustrated . So yeah, please lend a hoof here in any way possible. Thanks everypony!
I'm afraid to say that I'm on his side. Really, though, that is NOT how you go dealing with a hater. From the journal entry he wrote, it sounds as though us bronies were trying to force it down his throat. You getting angry at him not watching it is NOT going to help the situation. So, best thing to do is to keep calm and carry on.
The best way to 'deal' with a hater is not to acknowledge him at all, people like this feed off of emotional and any sort of response really. Why?, because they realized that you cared enough about what they said to the point that you feel the need to reply back to them in order to get the 'last laugh,' if you will. (Trust me about this, I use to troll all the time ^^") Remember, we're bronies and we love and tolerate not hate and argue, so from now on let's try to set an example for other bronies so they don't get trapped in a situation that you have placed yourself in.
I think it was kind of lame that you went an insulted furries there, calling it disgusting- quite honestly, it makes you a hypocrite. There's a lot of pony 34 out there, you know.
The starting step for dealing with hate is to not get mad. When you get mad, you lose, and your arguments are less believable. The first main step in dealing with a hater is to determine what kind of hater it is. While there are really many kinds of classifications, I will deal with four common types. The first is the True Hater. These people actually dislike the show, and while they do so for stupid reasons, there's really nothing you can do about it, so your best course of action is to just ignore them, since you can not convince them otherwise. The second is the "noob" troll. This is one of the two types of trolls that go after the fandom, and as with the hater, will not give up. However, if you ignore them enough, they too will lose interest and leave. Sadly, although luckily, this is the most common type of hate, and it can be easily dealt with. The third is the Sceptic. These people will usually have something meaningful to say, and can be convinced of nearly anything if you try hard enough. However, if you get mad, or try to force something upon these gentlemen of the internet, you will most likely turn them either into one of the other types of haters. The last is the pro troll. These masters of angering can troll off of ANY reply, including lack of such, and will most likely not quit unless you either beat them at their own game, which is fairly hard, or block them from contacting you, which is not always possible, and not recommended if these people are normally respectable members of the community. In this situation, I would say the battle is already lost, since you have clearly gotten mad in your response, not to mention that people are replying to the troll in number, as such constantly feeding it. I say that this is a troll because I doubt that a true hater would be so passionate on the topic, as ironic as that may seem.
I had a troll on My MLP School presentation video and I fell into a trap by getting angry at him making assumption about my character, this was a mistake and thanks to advice from my loyal commenter I just stopped replying to him. I could not access those comments so I couldn't see the argument. But you have to remember that some people just hate on things and try to make other people miserable or angry for the fun of it. I will never understand why hurting fellow human beings is fun for some people, I have always and will always be as kind and considerate of other people as I would want them to be to me. People who don't get that basic corny moral frankly disgust me. That's what I love about this show, as corny and obvious as the morals are. Some people don't even have those and I am pretty much able to assume that any fan of this show is a good person. People who hate it are likely not worth associating with.
I had to look up Super Mario Bros. Z because I couldn't even remember what it is. I like how he attacks the show's animation, it's so ironic in itself that I actually laughed. Anyway, I would ignore him. There's plenty more where he came from and he seems pretty clearly against the show as some kind of critic of it.
I read a Youtube comment today that pertains to this. I went back and found it, after much searching. My tip for you here is just to stay nice. In troll, "nice" means "boring." Also, DanSze, would you mind if I copied your guide to hater classification? I don't know yet what I'll use it for, but I know potential for excellence when I see it.
@Dilly Sure, I see no problem. Credit given where credit's due is my only request, and not an absolute one at that. Even if it was a spur of the moment classification.

Depends on the troll and how they're going about trolling. For some they'd end it there and move onto someone else who wouldn't realize they're being trolled and put an end to it, but note those would be the ones like trying to ignite a huge argument or that sort of thing. Others would just keep trolling, these are normally the type that run on persistence to bother you and not tact (basically brute force trolling, if you do something long enough it'll be a pain) will just keep it up until you stop giving them any sort of response.
Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll just ignore him and any haters from now on. I guess I was a foal for thinking he would actually be reasonable and understand why his post might hurt people (didn't know he was a troll initially). I hope everyone realises I was initially trying to let him know that it's ok to not like the show while not bashing the crap out of it because it's harmless. @testyal1 i'm a little confused by that :S, when did I get angry at him for now watching it? I thought he had watched it (according to his journal post). I just had a problem with hating on it (reviews are fine, glue factory insults I don't think so) @Naikado Yeah it would make me a hypocrite if I actually ment it, but I don't. I actually have no personal hate on furries, in fact I don't like anything rule 34 related or even shipping. Since I only said it out of anger I'd actually apologise to him if it made a dam difference. Thing is I didn't make a massive journal post hating on the subject, and theres a big difference between disliking something and publicly hating on something for reactions. Thats just what he did - hate on it for reactions. When I hated on his furries he reacted - massive surprise there, eh? I will admit it was wrong of me and I wont do it again - but please try to understand.
Okay, sorry to be bringing up a months-dead topic here, but I just want to report this. Remember how he smugly said that his show/animation was better then mlp fim? Well, just two days ago he canceled SMBZ. And on a cliffhanger no less. Oh, the delicious irony of it all.
I just wanted to share this story. I was called a "pony *squee!*" on xbox live when I did absolutely nothing to provoke it and I sent back that that was a nice comment coming from somebody with a rainbow in his profile pic, which he had, as a joke and said thanks for the comment. He replied "you watch a show for little girls...". I replied that the key demographic of little girls is strictly a commercial gain the same as GI Joe is a "boys cartoon" but can be enjoyed by women and that it was also intended for families to be able to enjoy since they watch this with their children. He responded "you are a sad strange little man". I said thanks for the update and that was the end of it. A troll looking for an emotional response and instead found a philosophic answer above his intelligence and happiness instead of sadness. Counter troll successful.
I've found the best way is to "love & tolerate" and then leave. Don't try to get them angry or force them to watch the show. It's fine to show your bronyism but if a hater responds, just reply in a friendly manner. Patronising/insulting them will just make it worse.
