An actual Fan Fiction reader could be a simple RSS feed that then updates as that area is updated. Pick a fan fic and you'll either get a small web browser or maybe downloads the Fan Fic for a nice little reader thingy. That could work. Yeah, I know, I know. The RPG system is gonna get crazy complicated, which is primarily why I opened the idea up as a collaboration: I could sure use the help, especially with individual characters. What could work is to create individual classes within each and every Mane Class (Magic, Force, Flight) and create a large amount of weapons, apparel and items to go with that. Then, allow particular characters access to only weapons, apparel and other stuff that suit their style or character. OC A would only be allowed various guns and light armours to be in keeping with a 'Hit and Run' style. Or maybe OC B would also be allowed guns but only Pistols but be allowed access to all robes and amulets to boost their spells. This'll take a while and I'm not planning to start building that database until I know the Base Engine works properly. The idea of who appears in the game based on who's online here is an interesting one. Of course, I'd have to make sure that it's something of an optional touch as I'd hate to have to force players to be online for what boils down to a more complicated and long-winded version of what we already have here at the bottom of the Forum Page. Even so, it seems kinda neat. I'll look into it but this seems like a finishing touch and won't get added for a long while, if it's possible.
Yes...Ish... Anyone interested in my progress for the RPG engine should head to the development tumblr blog I created as part of my coursework. Yes, the engine, at least, is just a part of what my project is all about. However, EP: The Game isn't what I'll build on top of that for my coursework. Instead, I figured I'd try another idea out that I really wanted to do for my coursework but continue to work on EP: The Game, as well. Currently, building the engine itself is a good way of edging both projects forwards at the same time. Once that's finished, expect a dedicated EP tumblr, detailing ideas in roughly the same way. In fact, why not just do that now... Anyway, here's the tumblr blog for my coursework: here As always, feel free to chip in ideas. I think I'll get that EP dedicated blog up soon as an idea board for story and character's. Otherwise, it'll just float away...
NO! NO! NO! DO NOT. DO. THAT. EVER. Why? That's what I've been doing. And...? You get to the point where you plaster EVERYTHING as "ok for now, optimize later" and two months down the line you look back at your ghastly code and think - gulp - kill me... For your wall thing, find some way to define directions (N, S, E W) and prevent movement in the direction of collision. Something as simple as this might even work, depending on the scope of things: Right Arrow Key Pressed direction East Left Arrow Key Pressed direction West Etc.... collision detected (if direction = east) disable right arrow key (if direction = west) disable left arrow key etc.... arrow key released/character stops moving enable all arrow keys
That's the current plan. I'm attempting to faction a similar method of deadened controls using roughly the same method as you've suggested. Almost exactly like it, in fact. Thanks for the help.
I have been a bit of a dozy twit. I've started up and ideas development blog for this game, gotten a few weeks in and then forgotten to tell you all about it. What silly fox I am, ay? Everypony: The Game Development Blog Remember, it's not set in stone, contact me all you like about it, listen to Swift's music and I'm sorry for lingering on Alicorns so much. Your effectively getting the recordings of my brain in written form.
Gah! Where is Swift, I need to find out what he's using to make these! (Yes, I AM still stuck on finding a program. So sue me.)
I just noticed the mention of Slick2D. This is what Dan and I wrote Interrobang!? with. I am familiar with it, If that's relevant.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/51276874/Interrobang.rar It's a physics based game; Bear in mind Dan and I made this a year and a half ago. For a school project. With really strict requirements. XP
You do know I'm nearly always lurking on the radio? Also I'm on Skype a lot. Anyways, to answer your question, I used FL Studio 10, the drum samples are from Vengeance, the synths used in the song are Sytrus and Wasp, and the distortion filter is Poulin Le456. I'm so happy you guys like it! <3
