I had this idea several times thought-out my time on the site, but I have had doubt if the concept would get off the ground foundations if it were to be built. So, I have decided to ditch this idea several times until I thought about it more and how it could help. So, my idea was an Everypony Wiki. I thought a while ago that it would be a good idea to learn about the history of the site, the members, and some thread history (Like the RP history and its success) and some community posts/events or ‘Scandals and Shocks’ such as Foxy leaving the site and its effect on the active members. . It could be a treasure cove of information of stuff that could have been long forgotten, brand new and so forth. For example, let’s say there was a page written about me on this wiki. It discusses about my user name, date I joined, member number, nationality, Quotes, most likely found in and so forth. This page could also be expanded with background information about themselves, but only the member could do so if they wish not to worry about privacy. Of course this is a general idea, it can be worked on if it had the adequate support and dedication. I would love to see this get up and running and if anybody is interested. All that this would be is a wiki, nothing more and nothing less or otherwise this would just be another EP. So, here you go. What you guys think?
This is unlikely to sound very surprising from me but what about dedicating it to the RP section in order to document characters, locations and the like? I mean, my first issue with this is that it's a Wiki. If we make it about everypony here, there might be a few that could attempt to deface certain individuals for revenge or giggles or as a Dark Knight of the Internet. Whatever, my knowledge isn't very extensive on what a Wiki can do to protect the information from needless alterations. Secondly, you're less likely to get bias or complaint for mistakes about a fictional character as opposed to a representation of someone's presence on a website. Get something wrong or not get the information stored quite right and there could be a few issues, especially if the person you're writing about doesn't agree with that you write. Correct or otherwise. Just a couple of concerns of the top of my head.
Events involving real people is a very sensitive area. Example: The drama and such like, you may have only seen it from one view, or heard the information from one person. History is written by the victor, or in this case whoever is picked to be the one who describes the events. Effectively you don't know everything that happened, and someone with a biased point of view, which is everyone involved in the events, could rewrite the history to suit their own means. A crap-ton of stuff that happened during drama was never brought onto the website, the information you see on the site is not all of it, it's buried in Skype conversations and other communication tools where it is to remain private. There's not really many facts involved if people are saying stuff that can't be backed up i.e. the truth. Wikipedia works because a lot of people can back that the information is the truth up, but who's to say I couldn't just put a random thing about myself and say it's fact? Who would know if it's the truth or not? Just saying, it's a nice concept, but it would be far too controversial.
I agree too, for the RP section this could be quite useful. Keeping track of storylines and OCs can be overwhelming, especially for new members that want to get involved in an already going one. The wiki would be very useful in that case to me. As for real people, I agree there as well, the cons outweigh the pros by far. Stay on the side of caution there and don't open that can of worms. Guess it could work for RP history, or events like Bunkerland and stuff. But having pages about individual members...sounds like a free shooting range for trolls, to be honest. Look at vanilla Wiki for example, why do you think a lot pages about real-life people are edit-locked from users and guests?
Pretty much this. Though the RP cataloging/documenting idea sounds kinda nice. - - Auto Merge - - http://youtu.be/940rzFtFNbs?t=5s
You guys make good points. So if it were to be made with sufficient support, it could be made just for the RP section.
I just want to see the "official multi-rp timeline." (Pre-sisters>discord era>present day>early insanity Celestia>Luna assassinated>etc. etc. etc.) so I like the whole rp only wiki.
This might actually work. I just need more green lights for this project and support to make it so that it a reality.
I've been here for two months and know nothing. But I will more than glad to hunt through old rp's during school for any info that is requested...
