For grimdark, you rarely want to know where the inspiration comes from. Because when you hear it, you realize that it has nothing to do with the plot of the fic. And in general should never end up as grimdark. Personal experience is not a pretty sight.

If there is an issue between you two, not doing anything and ignoring each other will only stagnate negative feelings. Talk to him, and do it nicely, sincerely, and humbly. Make it clear that you are sorry for whatever you did (whatever it was), which I'm sure you are. I've never had the pleasure of talking to Flash, but I have no doubt he's a wonderful guy and may even want this sorted as much as you. Oh, and as for art inspiration, I love bleak contrasts. Happy ponies in a violent world, it's just my thing. I'm not like that in real life mind you, I'm a really nice guy. Just like Test and Flash are.
