My real name's Amanda. I'm 35, but a VERY young-at-heart 35! I'm a recent fan of the new version of the MLP cartoon. I grew up watching the old cartoon, though. Since I was young, I've collected ponies. I recently had to stop by my storage unit and dig out most of my old ponies (some of the reissued G1 original ones from G3 are still in there -- Blossom, Cotton Candy, etc.) so I could display them. I've begun collecting the new ponies of G4, and as a result, I've become pony-obsessed. I don't think my Facebook friends know how to deal with that, but it's okay. For the most part, they ignore it. I do know of a Brony on my list, though, and I'm happy to have him around, cause it's given me someone to talk to about the show until I went cruising the Net today looking for pony pics to add to my photo album and found this really awesome place. I love to write and draw and paint... I'm currently working on a pointillism piece of Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy and Applejack, and when I'm done with that one, I think I may do one of Rarity, Twilight Sparkle and Pinkie Pie. I'm a very outspoken, Rainbow-Dash-like individual, but some of my kid-like shy persona (Fluttershy-like) often shines through. I work with a special needs girl, and I've gotten her addicted to ponies, too. Yesterday she asked me twice, "Can I have another pony?" And it was said so clearly and at a normal pitch (she has Down Syndrome, speaks low, and has other speech issues as well that often times you have to get her to repeat things several times)... how could I *NOT* give her another coloring sheet?! ) So the ponies are helping my girl. I may think about making some more "educational" worksheets in Word or something to go along with the new pony obsession she has. (Unless anypony here knows of any MLP educational printouts and such?) I'm looking forward to meeting and chatting with more pony fans and I hope you have a lovely weekend! I'm off to post my new picture finds on Facebook! Amanda
lol I don't have nearly the background you do with the franchise. I only got into it recently with the G4 show. But hey, I know the feeling of not being able to discuss it with your friends. Welcome to the site^^
Thanks, Ris_Grestar! I guess my experience with the franchise is what may make me feel an old-35 around here... lol ;-) But it's always been delightful, and I'm thrilled it is making such a great comeback. Glad to finally have others to discuss it with!
Im speechless... Your such an awesome person that whatever I say wouldn't matter..because this is your thread.. Hi.. You might find use in this series of diagrams Its called "The parts of a pony"
Hey there Amanda, welcome to the forums! You sound like an awesome person, glad to have you with us I hope you have fun and enjoy your stay here on Everypony!
Hey MLPMommy4Life (or Amanda)! Welcome to our herd! Well, nice to see some one closer to my age on here, although I didn't get into MLP back then - G1 was just a bit too girly for me. Sounds like you're doing some good work in real life, so that right there is pretty amazing - I can't wait to discover what else is amazing about you!
Quite a history. I had the same problem talking to people about MLP:FIM because no one was interested in it. I also find it neat that you are 35 because it shows how diverse the fanbase is.
Thank you all! Hi Dwynter! As far as G1 being girly... while I do agree, they did have a set of actual boy ponies that my brother used to have so that he could play with me! (And I mean, actual, Hasbro-made ponies! Kind of in the style of Big Macintash! [which could be why I enjoyed watching him in the new episode today.... bit of nostalgia]) When I go through the bin, I'm sure that I still have one or two, but they came in adult and kids, and they even had families of three (mom, dad, child), which I am sure I'll still have. I'll have to post pics so you all can see. I would love to share my collection if anypony would like to see it. And also, thank you for the compliment. Bounty - Thank you for the diagram and the video! Very helpful! RonstaPony and Genesis 890 - Thank you both a lot, too! I'm so happy to be here... I just hope I don't seem too over-anxious! (I'm sure I'll stop bouncing around like Pinkie Pie really soon...lol)
Hmm, don't remember them . . . Mostly I just remember the kids being in it. Oh, and I didn't mean girly in any sort of derogatory manner - rather, I meant it as something adults *think* some young girls would have liked. They obviously never hung out with the girls I hung out with. And don't worry about being over-anxious - we all bounce around like Pinkie Pie every once in a while around here.
Welcome to the EP forums! It's great to see that FiM can help in many facets of life and be used in real life situations! And it's nice to have another 30+ year old on here too. Oh, and remember to praise Rarity!
Oh my God, that story about the girl you work with is adorable! The idea of you using ponies as a form of educational tool is just really cute for some reason, and mighty venerable. Do you work in the care industry, or is it another scenario? Regardless, I've always held those working with the disabled/special needs/old aged, I just think it's a really nice and altruistic notion. That aside, welcome to the site! We're a really nice group here, very welcoming and civil. And of course, all are welcome! You'll love it here, I assure you. Also, be sure to check out the radio, you'll love that too.
A big warm welcome to you here at the EP forums! It sounds amazing the work you do with that child. I look forward to seeing your art!
Hi Dwynter - Oh no, I knew what you meant! I didn't think you were being derogatory at all, just speaking the truth (because their design did come off as girlie, I'll be the first to admit that!). I'm still not home until tonight, but I'll look in the bin and see which boy ponies I can find. Dragonbait - Thanks! I wasn't a huge Rarity fan at first, but I'm appreciating her more and more with each episode. (And she sings my favorite song from the series to date, "The Art of The Dress.") Luprony - Thank you SO much! To answer your question, I work in a middle school and she's on pretty much a K-1st Grade level. She has down syndrome, and I'm pretty much her one-on-one teacher, although I'm only classified as an assistant. I think that since my introducing her to the ponies, she would respond well to things such as math sheets, stories using her sight words that she's learning, etc., in a modified curriculum. I just need to take a day to figure out how to go about it if nopony knows any way I can find something like that already made up. I love working with her, and it's a nice change of pace since I've been working with very rough elementary-age kids for the past five years. I'll definitely take your advice about the radio.... I'm sure it's great! Looking forward to it! ePONYmous and FlutterRainbowEuph -- Thank you so much! And I can't wait to share my art! I'd love to know how everyone gets all of the art up like I see on DeviantArt... I'd love to be able to do digital art too, but Old School, hand-drawn is my favorite thing.
Hi welcome. I guess there are a surprisingly high number of ponies in the 30+ croud here. I just turned 36 myself. I know there are a few older than me too. It is great that there is a show that everypony ages 4-90 can enjoy equally. I never watched MLP when I was a kid though. I'm a g4 only brony and couldn't sit through a full older episode. I also like how you are using ponies to get through that learning barrier. I've already felt that MLP: FiM is a great show to encourage kids to watch for the education and moral benefits. i never thought it could be used to teach math as well.
Hello, welcome to Everypony! Your story is touching. It's so awesome you're using ponies as an education tool for this girl.
http://www.ponylandpress.com/us/bigbrother.shtml -- Here are great photos of the big brother ponies I was telling you about, Dwynter! )
Hey! Welcome to Everypony! If you need anyhelp, please ask. You should join the RP thread. Just sayin'... :derpe:
