Ever since i became a brony i have been dwelling on wether to tell anyone or keep it to myself considering my mum almost found out????
I'm dealing with the same thing. Mine thinks it's weird. I would bring it up gradually and find the right time.
I don't get this whole 'coming out' thing. You're not telling people that you're gay or transgendered. You're not telling them that you're dying. You're a fan of a cartoon. What's the big deal?
Some people have a hard time dealing with being or even feeling like they are being judged for what they like. Even if it is something as trivial as a TV show.
Trust me in a school as brutal as mine it is a bad idea but i do have two pegasister friends one older one yonger than me and i am the only brony, to the extent of my knowledge in my school
That is also a part of my perdicimint i can't tell my parents because i am scared of what they might think. But there is a song that helped me tell one of my friends called proud to be a brony it does give you a bit of a boost.
Thanks for every one who has helped me and here is the good news my family are cool with it and that is at least twenty percent cooler. I would especailly like to thank viper bait for his ideas to help break it to my family. Morgan
I regret making such a huge deal about telling my parents about being a brony. They thought it was something dangorous or a cult or something the way I told them about it. Just watch the show and be apart of the fandom and if they find out they find out. If you want to tell them don't make a huge deal about it like I did. I know it is kinda weird but I doubt they will care that much. If you think they will lose their marbles over you liking MLP FIM then I guess just try to keep it secret but really how hard is it? Just do most of your pony stuff on a mobile device if you have one or do it when no one is home. All in all just don't worry too much about it.
Don't make such a deal out of it. Do it like me: but note that i've reached the adult age in my country, and an adult watching a kid show is maybe the second uncommon thing in society. Here goes: when i first became a brony, it took me about a week (or more) before joining this forum. Three days later, i showed it to my best friend, and asked him if i was normal. Of course, he said i wasn't; but he became a brony too. So the very same day, we were watching the first season while my mother came back from work, and simply told us we were real kids at heart for watching ponies. But hey; at any holiday/birthday, she gives me pony related things. And she knows how to differe the 5 generations from each other! She's pretty awesome. Don't freak out about that. Just let her know, and she won't mind. The worst that can happen isn't that bad; loosing every hope in her life. Or asking herself about the way she educated you, for you to become addicted (to her eyes) to a little girl's show. Oh yeah, how my mother came to deal with me being a brony; i showed her an episode, i think it was luna eclipsed. She just told me the overall thing was cute, and that it wasn't for little kids. And she almost- i really say almost- understood why i like that series and call myself a brony. Don't loose trust in your parents; they might laugh of it first, but if you show them why you like that series and consider it NOT to be for 5 year old girls, and prove them how awesome it is, they might even start watching it.

He's right. And I need to take my own advice on this; Don't make it a big deal. Don't be afraid to laugh at yourself, it is kind of funny, but be proud. It. Is. Just. A. Hobby.
Some people have gotten thrown out of their homes or beaten up. Other forum I was on, kid was looking for a place to live because his parents, in all their infinite wisdom, thought throwing him out of the house for liking cartoon ponies was the way to go. Some people can be total *squee!*s about people liking things they don't understand. - - Auto Merge - - I wouldn't try and hide it. You can start out small, like buttons on a bag, a patch on a jacket or a small toy on your desk. If people react well to it, then you can add more. Just don't make it seem like your doing something wrong, if you act suspiciously, people will assume your up to something and that your ashamed. You will have to expect some teasing if you tell people you like little ponies- don't take it to seriously though, I find people often joke when they are uncomfortable, but it eventually goes away when they realize you haven't gone off the deep end.
