I keep seeing custom MLP pony plushes all over Ebay, and I really want a custom Fluttershy plush, but there too expensive for my tastes. I found a Twilight Sparkle plush at Walmart today, but they only had her, Pinkie Pie, and Rainbow Dash. I really hope they make the other ponies. I would be willing to buy a custom Fluttershy if someone knows someone who could make me one at a reasonable price.

The reason most plushies are way overpriced is shipping costs. Have fun getting one for a low price with this day's postal service...

Shipping isn't the thing. $250 for any plush handmade is ridiculous!

Hah, you'd be lucky to win a custom plush auction at $250! I see some of those really well made ones go almost a grand or more. One Chrysalis plush went for over $2500. Ridiculous!

If you're looking for a Fluttershy, take a look here: http://ponyplushies.com/

The reason they only currently have Flutters is because they're a rather new store, they'll be adding all of the mane six I believe.

You can sometimes get custom made plushies on deviantArt commissioned, and make a deal for a price with the seller there. I do believe you can also on some occasions trade them points to purchase something. It may end up being more in your price range if you find someone willing to make one for a fair price in your books.

You can also find them on etsy.

And you can find Sewing Patterns on Deviantart! I for myself did a pony loaf yesterday, its not that hard and looks very cute! You dont need much stuff, because you can do it by hand and without sewing machine. For a real pony plush it takes about 5 hours around.

And sometimes there are give aways for Ponysona events.

You have to understand that they are expensive because of the labour that is put into it.

The ones you can buy at the store are a lot cheaper because they're made on a production line, whilst getting a custom plushie is well... custom. It's made because you yourself commissioned the person to make it. (like WhiteDove for example).

It's not just a simple, cut and stitch and stuff process. Since most pony plushies are made out of Minky, you have to cover the costs of that fabric alone, which can be quite pricey at times. Depending on the size of the plush, you'd probably have to get at least half a meter of the fabric.

Let's use OP wanting Fluttershy as an example...

That's a whole meter of minky fabric if you put together the fact you need both yellow and pink. When you're laying out the pattern for the plush, you have to make sure that each piece is facing the same direction as the grain of the fabric. (You don't want a plush with the fur going downward on the leg, then up on the body for example) so you have to correctly space out each piece of the pattern. There's the effort of cutting it out right, then stitching it right together. After that there's the embroidery, for things like the eyes and cutie mark... Which can either be done by hand, which would take a LOT of time and effort, or by a special machine that not a lot of people even own. So, that's at least 5 or so colours of cotton... Then there's the stuffing, and making sure that the stitches are durable enough to not just rip apart, etc.

:/ Putting all that together, I can completely understand why people charge so much for these plushies, I would too considering how much effort it takes...and that's not even going into the time put into it. You're paying for what you're getting: A custom, high quality product made with good materials.

I wanted to get one of the more smaller ones of Lyra, but those are expensive too.
