Over analyzing the show...

Well... I think Pinkie is a descendant of Discord, which explains how she does those random things that makes no sense.

Also, how do ponies grab things with hooves? I suspect a similiar function to electromagnets.

Character personalities for me. But as a writer, I can build or derive entire stories from seemingly minute details.

This is part of the reason I enjoy Lesson Zero so much and how Pinkie's psychopathic side from Party of One led to Cupcakes. /teehee Still, you gotta admit Cheshire Twilight Sparkle is cool.

 

I've thought about analyzing the show critically for the heck of it, and then I realize just how deep that rabbit hole goes.

And when think about it, it is strange that the ponies names match their cutie mark, how does the naming process in Equestria work, it either involves divination or ponies change their names once marked.

In S2E1, Celestia urges the mane 6 to stop Discord. Even though she's supposed to be the almighty ruler of Equestria, who has defeated him before, she states that she doesn't have the power to stop him anymore. The mane 6, more or less the living elements, hold the power now. Celestia, stripped of this power, no longer really holds on to the Magic of Friendship. This could explain why she was so serious about it, and had to rely completely on them all.

It might also explain why she asked everyone to write her about the lessons. Rather than knowing what everyone has learnt, maybe she hereself needs some new lessons in friendship, as to so restore the powers she once wielded. The mentor, no longer capable of teaching, has become the student, and her student her teacher.

And if you don't see how Celestia could possibly have lost that power.. She banned her sister to the moon. I mean, c'mon. Not the friendliest act ever, eh?

Hmm... that would explain a few things. To master the elements by yourself, you need to master loyalty, honesty, generosity, kindness, laughter and magic. The thing is, Celestia never possessed all of these qualities, she needed Luna to use the elements originally. What I wonder is, what of this does Celestia lack and what element does Luna possess she does not?

I don't think Celestia is allmighty, not without the elements anyway, just very powerful.

 

I wonder.. What if there are more elements out there? Love, for example, also plays a huge part in Harmony.. We'll have to go deeper into this!

Here's my guess:
A young filly stands in her bedroom. It just so happens that today, the 13th of April, is the day this young filly has gotten her cutie mark. Though it was thirteen years ago she was given life, it is only today she will be given a name!
What will the name of this young filly be?

Anyway, I guess that the naming process is either luck or divination. Or they could force their child to live in a strict, controlled environment so until their cutie marks appear. That could explain why the CMCs are blank flanks (their parents aren't strict enough).

Wait... does Scootaloo even have parents?

 

You could also say, from this interpretation, that the Mane 6 have the power to rule the world using the Elements since Celestia can no longer use them. Makes you wonder if she can nullify their powers.

There was a comic I didn't save quite a while back that had grim imaginations of the Mane 6 10-20 years later:
-Twilight's knowledge and desire to teach led to her becoming a professor at Celestia's magic school, but she also suffered from random psychotic breaks.
-Pinkie Pie organized high profile parties, but ultimately developed an addiction to sugar (obvious reference to drugs).
-Rainbow Dash joined the Wonderbolts, but was kicked out and constantly fined for Sonic Rainbooms causing property damage and noise pollution.
-Applejack took over the family business, but it spiraled out of control and she became an alcoholic.

I don't remember Rarity's and Fluttershy's, but Celestia is looking over a letter at the end and cringing.

 

If she does, her mother would probably be a lot like Rainbow Dash (because she looks up to Dash) and her father I can imagine being quite strict. Maybe that's why she wouldn't be so disciplined, because of her influences in Ponyville?
That does bring me to the question though, where in Equestria were Rarity's parents all that time? They didn't appear to have a room at Rarity's boutique, but they did seem a lot like travelling ponies. Personally, I think that it is possible for the other ponies parents to be travelling as well. Applejack's parents are probably famous rodeo stars or something

 

I think that thing with Celestia makes a lot of sense. Like when she banished Luna to the moon it destroyed her elements of harmony. The lessons go to repair parts of the rifts with her and her sister. Perhaps both are learning from them and trying to regain the powers they lost. They both have political power and as we know, political power corrupts even good people

I over analyze this show to DEATH! But, all in good fun. I also try to come up with reasons for my questions. The whole name-matching-cutie-mark thing? Since it's not always true, I suspect a bit of foresight is involved. Maybe in the intensity of child birth, a flash of the child's future is revealed. Not always, of course . . . Scootaloo?

I also like to examine background ponies cutie marks, and try and puzzle out what they do. Like in "Mare do well," there's an old pony with a pipe cutie mark. My wife and I puzzled about that for quite a bit, wondering if he ran a pipe store, and, coincidentally, I had just earlier wondered if ponies smoked. There were some other ideas we tossed about, but I don't remember them much.

As for holding things in their hooves, I suspect they've devised some sort of bracelet that lets them attach things to it, like when Applejack was roasting marshmallow's in "Look before you Sleep."

What I really wonder about is the time before Celestia. We got a glimpse of it in "Hearth's Warming Eve," but I'm curious how those two came into power, are there more alicorns (apparently there are), how is Blueblood her nephew, etc., etc.
