Avice chuckled nervously, still embarrassed by what happened. "I apologize for doing that. Those things drive me crazy... Literally."
"No problem." She looked back out into the water to check if that thing was thing still there. And then, she passed out, the giant bite gash still bleeding.
Jared was dazed and confused as he was pulled to the surface. "W-where is she?... She was there... so beautiful..."
Jack laughed lightly. "I can tell. Just, try to refrain from jumping in again, okay? Sirens are... not my favorite enemies." He turned to look at the water, glaring at it's choppy surface. He turned back just in time to see Sierra fall, and he caught her and gently laid her on the ground. "Natalia, you've started a trend," he said. "Can you pass me those bandages she gave you?" Natalia nodded, and rolled the bandages across the deck. Jack caught them, and set to work. "Jack," Natalia called, now extremely pale. "Do you happen to have a gun?" He lifted a hand and pointed to the pile he had brought from the supply room. A revolver sat in the middle, it's hilt gleaming in the moonlight. Seeing that Natalia couldn't reach it by herself, Ellia took the gun, and brought it to Natalia, who took it gratefully. She was muttering to herself as she loaded the gun. "Gills, ears, belly, eyes," She slung her arm over the side, and let her eyes adjust to the water. A flurry of shapes swam through the water, maybe eight, more or less. She took a moment to ready her aim, and fired three quick bullets. A moment passed, and then two shapes slowly rose to the surface, face down, both dead. * * * Jade sat Jared in a sitting position and peered anxiously at his face. "Jared," she said softly, "Jared, they're sirens. They're not real." She paused for a moment, thinking back on her words. "Well, actually, they are real; they are physical beings that could kill you very easily, but the forms they take are not real." She refocused and looked at Jared worriedly, shivering due to the fact that she was soaking wet, and Jesus, that water was freezing.
(I'm impatient. I'll add more.) "Sirens, Jared," Jade said softly. "You fell in." She looked worried, as water droplets rolled off her head. Jack finished bandaging Sierra, and leaned her against the wall in an upward sitting position, handling her gently. He hoped she would come to soon. He turned to Avice, and saw her still sitting. "Here," he said, offering her a hand. "We need to get you some earplugs."
Avice nodded, and took his hand. Once she stood she gave him thanks. "Where were they again? Storage room, right?" She was surprised at how heavy her arms felt, but shook the feeling off.
"Yeah. Back corner, in a barrel, besides the beets. You got it?" Jack asked, his gaze caught by a swirling in the water. He took another pistol from the pistol, and made a shot. The thing in the water swam away, and Jack cursed.
Avice nodded. For a moment she watched the water, her eyes still blazing. She then ignored it and proceeded to the storage room.
Sierra eventually woke up,she still felt woozy. "Ugh,I'm surprised how fast I bled out..." She stood up and wobbled a little, trying to get her balance. Once she did,she went off along with Avice to get some Earplugs. "So,you've got quite a grudge with those sirens... Mind if I ask why?"
Avice looked at her from peripheral vision, then stared straight again, her eyes like ice. "My father was a merchant. As his ship sailed the seas those... things, made it crash. A sharp rock right through the hull. There were no found survivors."
"Huh,my dad also died, just not from sirens. Me and him were on vacation and then one day when I got up from bed after a good night's sleep,I find myself standing in a puddle of his own blood,a giant cut in his throat. Then, all the fingers were pointed to me..." She pulled out a blue amulet with gold chains, not knowing she was showing Avice her full name. "This was what he was planning on giving to me for my birthday...all that's left..." She wipes her face with her sleeve to wipe away her tears.
Jared stood up. He slowly hobbled over to the gun barrel and took one. He aimed it into the water and fired multiple times. Missed.
"Gills, ears, belly, and eyes, Mr. Rayne," Natalia said weakly from the ground. She rested her head back, strangely casual despite their conversation earlier. "That's their weak spots. Sirens swim with their bellies down most of the time, but their gills are located everywhere. There's a particularly vulnerable one on their spines. I tend to have the most luck with that one." Jack turned to Natalia, and for the first time, he noticed what state she was in. "You need help, don't you? I'm sorry, Natalia; I wasn't thinking." "I am not your burden to bear, Jack. Don't worry." Natalia said this lightly, but her head drooped, and she winced as another round of pain went through her ribs. He cocked his head in thought, and then shook his head and crouched down. "Here. Let's see." He pulled the bandage away from her side, and looked at the cut. He had been a medic before he had been a first mate, but it had been a while, so his skills were rusty. Despite that, even he could tell that the cut was not in a finished state. It needed stitches, and medicine. He shook his head. "Alright," he said after a moment of silence, "I need to get some stuff. Wait here." He recovered the wound, and stood up. "Cobiah," he said. "Can you come give me a hand?"
"Yessir." Cobiah said, as he fired a shot at a passing siren, incapacitating it, but not killing it. He tossed the pistol to a nearby shipmate and followed Jack to the store room.
Jack walked into the store room, and saw Avice and Sierra talking. He paid them no mind, and went to a more clean section of the storage. He pulled out a roll of bandages, muttering to himself. "We need the antibacterial lotion... thread, needle." He continued mumbling, looking slightly concerned and frustrated. He passed various items to Cobiah with a nod of gratitude, and then frowned. "Have you seen the syringes?" Jack asked.
Avice was in the back corner, grabbing earplugs for Sierra and herself. "If you're talking to us, no. Something happen?"
"Nothing except Natalia's state," he said grimly. "Her stitches have opened up, and she didn't change her bandages enough." He shook his head, as if disgusted, but there was an underlying current of gentleness to it. As always, he was worried about her.
"It sounds simple enough but they move so fast" He fired off a couple more rounds. He ended up hitting one but it kept on swimming. (Also shakes his RP tree)
