She looked up at him, her head tilted ever so slightly. Her green eyes traced his features fondly, and her hand rubbed his back gently. "You look different here. Brighter. It's a good look."
He met her gaze, looking down at her thoughtfully. Was it a trick of the light, or did his eyes glow as he watched her? "I was never allowed to visit the Fae," he said slowly, craning his head back to look up at the dark canopy. "Edgar told me that I'd be killed on sight." A frown crossed his mouth. "I don't know if that was the truth."
She watched him curiously, leaning back a little bit. "I suppose we'll see," she replied, her voice soft and implying her interest. "If it works out I think It'll be exciting."
He laughed a little, letting go of her as he returned to his task. He cracked an egg into the pan, the action smooth and practiced. "We'll see. If it doesn't work out, I'll end up dead."
She shook her head, reaching forward and lightly poking his shoulder. "No you won't. You're with us, so it'll be okay."
He looked over at her, raising one eyebrow as he cracked another egg into the pan, setting the shells next to the firepit. "That's true... you do have your claws."
She seemed hesitant, standing up nervously and taking a few steps away before summoning the claws with a small, anxious frown.
He tilted his head, folding his hands behind his back as he considered her. "Nice deep breaths, elf," he said, and for a moment, it felt like they were back in the library in the Human Kingdom.
They flew towards him and he sidestepped them quickly. "Good. Now, Cal, I need you to trust me," he said, looking over at her. "Real attacks. Don't hold back."
"Trust me, sweet elf. I can handle it. I want to make sure that you're prepared." He put his hands on his hips, tilting his head. "Be brave."
She exhaled slowly, as if hyping herself up the task before nodding, summoning the hands again. Her expression was hard as she sent an attack at him, her stance fluid as she focused.
He evaded it narrowly and his hands lit up with light blue Magyck. She hadn't seen him use his magyck outside of his head, and as she watched, he drew a symbol into the air in front of him. As the claws moved in to attack him, it would hit an invisible wall, and he pushed it back, sending the claws away down an alternate course.
She frowned, getting more into it as he blocked it off. She shifted her stance to turn them back around toward him, and they moved quickly.
They swept forward and swiped along his face. A cut appeared across his cheek and he paused, looking shocked.
He looked up at her, touching the cut gently. He was silent before a wide grin crossed his mouth. "You did it! That wasn't fake, Cal! You got me!"
