The Glass House

Darkness and falling, that was how the dream always began. Frozen plummeted to the bottom of a black abyss serenaded by the echoes of screams of anguish.

When his hooves hit the icy floor of a cavern, he took a moment to assess his surroundings. For as far as he could see, in any direction, an icy wasteland stretched on into oblivion.

Then came the rumbling, just as it always began, and he turned to behold a hydra breaking free from the confines of a frozen lake. The beast's scales glistened in the light of an arctic aurora, as it rose to tower over the windigo.

"You can never escape your nature," the beast said, "No matter how much you fight it, YOU ARE MINE!"

Pain wracked through Frozen, like hot coals flowing through his blood. The urge to give in to his destructive nature was becoming harder and harder to control. Just as his will began to break, and Frozen felt the darkness consuming his mind, he felt a hoof yank him from the abyss with a flash of blinding light. He awoke with a start, shaking in the dim firelight of his room, sobbing quietly into his pillow.

 

When Discord looked up from the ball and cup, everyone seemed to have gone. Judging by the sky outside the window, it was night time, so he supposed they had all snuck off and gone to bed. He shrugged, tucked his fantastic new discovery under one of his yellow wings and headed up to his room.

Now that he had a little more time, he decided to decorate it properly. He started by removing the rug, and levitating the bed and lamp, "Hmm," he thought for a moment, then clicked his fingers. Then he realised that he didn't have fingers, and rolled his eyes: "How do ponies ever get anything done?" he asked himself before stamping his hoof on the floor. In a flash, the bare room was transformed into a perfect replica of Fluttershy's cottage, stuck in an endless barrel roll.
"Perfect!" Discord announced proudly, before throwing himself onto the bed and falling into an intense sleep.

Luna noticed that a pair of ponies had nightmares. Since she had acces to the dramscape, even if her magic was unavailable, she was able to noticed that and she knew who they were: Rosy and the Windigo. She tried to look into their dreams, but they were up, so she decided to go and see what they had. She woke up Darky and told him about this.
Darky went to Frozen's room and knocked the door.
Luna went to Rosy's room and knocked, but after nopony answered, she went outside to look for her.

 

FrozenFrozen was actually very surprised to hear a knock at his door this late at night. "Half a moment, please!" He called, as he rose and used his magic to don a navy colored robe. After a few moments he opened the door, "Darky?" He said, when he saw him, "Is everything alright?"

 

"Luna said that you had a nightmare, are you alright?" He asked him a bit concerned about him.

"I had a feeling that was what this visit was about," he said, chuckling humorlessly, "I am fine. I have grown..accustomed..to the nightmares."

 

"Still, me and Luna were a bit worried." Darky said. "But if you say you are alright, I'll trust you and let you rest, but still getting used to nightmares is not good for anypony."

 

"Calm down little one." Luna said gently approaching to her "What are you doing outside at this hour of the night?" She asked her. "The amount of pones awake at this time is quite limited, why are you here?" She was a bit worried about her.

 

Frozen put a hoof to his forehead and winced a bit. "I don't know how to explain it to you, or even if you would understand, but I can try. You're welcome to come in if you want."

Frozen left the door open and crawled up into one of the chairs next to the fire, which he stoked with his magic."

 

"Thank you." Darky said and walked in. He sat near the fire, but in the floor. He just felt more comfortable in there than in a chair.

 

"I am haunted, I believe," Frozen said as he gazed into the fire, "I don't fully understand the being or its connection to me; no tome I have ever read mentioned its existence. Yet there it is, every night, trying to force me to give into my disharmonic nature and destroy everything around me."

"I have fought it for hundreds of years, but I do not know how much longer I can," he said as a trickle of blood slid from his nostril down his muzzle, "I am becoming weaker with each passing day."

 

"I understand how you feel." Darky said looking at the fire. "I'm cursed to have nightmares the rest of my life, Even after destroying the one that did this to me, they never ended, the curse was way too deep in my heart." He closed his eyes. "Luckily for me, I found 'a treatment' for it. It was simple, spend my night with Luna since she fils my heart with love. But that's the only way and I doubt there is a way to definitely take it of me." He looked to the ceiling. "Just spending a night without her makes me go crazy and my nightmares go worse every passing day without her."

 

"You have suffered greatly," he said, "it doesn't take a Windigo to see that. " I am wizened in the ways of magic and I may be able to help. I am willing to try; all I ask in return is your help. If this creature is the one that laid this curse upon my people, I need guidance in determining its identity. For that.. I may need the help of alicorn magic."

 

"Thank you, but I doubt it would work. Even with the help of the crystal heart and even Princess Celestia itself, we couldn't get rid of this." Darky said. "But I'll still help you with what you want." He then said.

 

"Thank you," Frozen said
"All I know is that the creature is a massive crystal hydra. It seems to live in a frozen cavern that resembles a vast tundra."

 

"A crystal hydra?" Darky asked him. "Hmm... never heard of something like that, but perhaps my wife should know what it is or how to deal with it. Maybe when she comes back, we will be able to get further into this."

 

"I can only hope so," he said.

Frozen spent the time, during Luna's absense, explaining every detail he could remember about the dream, to Darky. He felt it best to get his story straight first, so it would be consistent when they tell Luna.
