I've noticed that Pegasi seem to be the favorite Pony sub-species in the fandom: Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy are almost among the most popular members of the Mane Six, most fans seem to associate themselves with pegasi, and pegasi OCs seem to constitute a majority. Can anyone explain to me why? I have nothing against them, I'm just curious as to the meaning of this trend.
This is mainly due to most Bronies liking their OC to have a special Physical Quality..making Earth Ponies the least used for OC's... And because Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash are among the most popular of the Mane six..you find that Pegasi become the most used for OC's....
Thats what i mean though, alot of Ponies do use Unicorn...but since (probably) the most famous ponies of the mane 6 are RD and FS...most use Pegasi
But that doesn't really explain why Pegasi are so popular in the first place. Are FS and RD popular because they are pegasi, or is it vice-versa?
What Sykowolf said, prior to MLP, I preferred Unicorns to Pegasi when it came to fictional horses. But I really like Rainbow Dash's character and beginning to like Fluttershy's a lot as well. So I align with Pegasi cause they are the two best of the mane 6 (I think I now like Fluttershy more than Pinkie, thus making Flutter the 2nd best pony, after Dash), when it comes to race, I prefer the Earth Ponies more than the Unicorns (Pinkie & Applejack are 3rd & 4th, respectively, and Twilight & Rarity (the Unicorns) are 5th & 6th, respectively). But as far as what I would want to be is an Unicorn (Magic is awesome), over a Peggy, but my OC is a Pegasus.
Well, I've dreampt of riding a black-shelled volcanic dragon in the fiery skies of... well, not flying personally. I've always had a preference in magic, so I went unicorn. I'm not sure why so many are pegasai, but I can only assume that it's because being born of Gorgon's Blood, Fear, and Sea Foam is a magical thing.
Gotta agree with Mr.Eight star Magic has always been far more interesting to me so had a much higher preference when it comes to choices hence the Unicorn choice
I really hate the amount of pegasi there are. It's ridiculous. I made my OC back in June 2011, the reason he has wings is for his job. Most people just add wings because hell, it makes them feel special, and EVERYONE wants to fly above using magic. It makes me feel like my own OC isn't original, which really sucks. I'd be an earth pony now if I could.
If my OC was anything but a pegasus it wouldn't make sense considering my cutie mark, unless his special talent was farting I guess. Wings are sexy. What else is there to say?
I chose Pegasi because it made sense out of all the types there are for me to choose that particular one. I explained it in a long ass description in my Pony Self image that I did a while back. It was something along the lines of always having my head in the clouds, sense and longing for travel and adventure, creativity over study. And of course, it's all in good fun. I always thought Unicorns were the most popular. (Excluding Alicorns *Rolls eyes* which luckily there isn't a majority in this case.) And come on, no-one wants to admit it, but they won't choose to be an earth pony when they believe there is nothing particularly special about them in comparison to the others, and of course if they have a good enough excuse to be either of the other races. Anyone that does choose an earth pony probably despises everyone else wanting to be something magical and extravagent, but as an eccentric individual I couldn't care less. Hell, I frickin have the wings DYED on my pony self. Is that such a bad thing? It's something I would do if I was in pony form. In conclusion, at least there isn't a massive explosion of awful Alicorn Oc's. They exist, but only in moderation.
Like I say, if I wasn't a pegasus, I'd be an earth pony. My OC's built like an earth pony, the whole idea being that his parents were farmers, one was like Big Macintosh, one was a graceful pegasus. Strong bucking legs, and the ability to fly. I don't like the idea of using magic much, I'd rather live a simpler life.
I guess it depends on the characteristics and desires of an individual. Of course it's canon to have the cutie mark relate to a particular talent, and that should actively come from an influence of what race you are. I guess I used less restrictions and just do what I always do and attempt to be artistic and creative when trying to portray myself in an alternative race.
I choose unicorn because 1:Can do a lot more with magic 2: I dont like heights. 3:TOO MANY DAMN FLYING HORSES!
I chose the pegasus format because A) at the time Fluttershy was my favorite character and B) I've always liked the idea of flying. There really isn't a unique, original or deep meaning behind it, and I don't think there needs to be. It's what you like, plain and simple. Although now I'd prolly change it to a unicorn, but that's too much work lol.
