Vengeance of the Damned

The town of Deathsbane City, 201X



Fading back to life, Dimitri Green screamed in terror, sending the few mobster outside his coffin into a panic. "Relax, ya idiots!" the shortest and fattest one cried, raising his rifle. "Just... Just the wind or something. Get the rest of these coffins out! We need to hide this evidence!" Glancing at the other coffins pulled from the ground, he chuckled. "I ain't ever gonna die."

 

Penelope woke up in darkness, her stay in the afterlife being breif. She tried to go back, not wanting to sit in the silence and darkness forever. After a few seconds of remaining, she felt a tingling in her throat before coughing a spider. She couldn't remain calm after that. She began banging on the coffin wildly. "Spider! Spider! Good god, let me out!"

 

Andrew woke up in the floor of his antique. He felt something... weird inhis chest. "W-what happened?" He asked himself. Last thing he remembered was that he was being robbed and then felt something going trough his chest... and that was it. He looked down and... "AHhhhhh!!!!!" He noticed his zwiehänder in his chest, yet it didn't hurt. He tried to calm down and took it off him with a slight pull. "What the... is lighter than I remember." he said to himself. He stood up and looked around. The blood that came out of him looked dry, how long was he like that?!

 

Duke awoke with a coughing fit; someone seemed to have looked him in their trunk again, he hated when that happened. Instinctively, he reached for his cigarettes, but found only his lighter.

"Alright, which one of you bastards took my smokes!? he demanded angrily, no-one responded, but he could hear muffled voices. His lighter threw some light on his surroundings, and made it clear that this was no trunk; someone had put him in a coffin.

"Goddammit. Paulie! Is that you? This is all just a big misunderstanding; I never touched Pegorino's wife!" For some reason the flame of the lighter was making him wary, so he flipped it shut, and attempted to force the lid off the coffin instead.

 

Dimitri began to pound at the wooden coffin's door. "I-I... I hear voices!" he shouted as loud as he could. "Let me outta here! There's been some sort of mistake! Kidnapping! Help!"
Then an idea struck. It wasn't a smart idea, but it was an idea.
After winding back carefully, Dimitri threw a punch straight through his coffin door. Of course, now his hand was covered in splinters and it hurt like hell.


Several of the mobsters sprinted away in fear, yelling "ZOMBIE!" as they ran down the hill, leaving only the boss and a few of his grunts. "Who said my name?!" Paulie yelled, looking to what's left of his crew. He then turned to see a now-bleeding hand poking out of one of the coffins. "G-Get these coffins open, boys... Somethin' ain't right."
Without hesitation, his crew began to rip open the coffins' lids with crowbars. They eventually made it to the last group of coffins.

"Alright, boys. These gotta have the zombies in them. Open them at the same time." His men placed their crowbars in each coffin. "3..." They pulled up slightly. "2..." They pulled back. "1!" They tore off each coffin's lid, before sprinting away in fear, screaming at the top of their lungs, leaving Paulie alone with his new 'friends'.

 

Andrew heard some.voices screaming outside his antique shop. Did he heard correctly.... did they yelled.... zombie? He decided to investigate that. He got the keys of the shop, change his shirt to one that hid his scar where he was stabbed and left for the place some more were running away from. He had with him his zwiehänder, carring it it over his shoulder like if it didn't waight at all.

 

Groaning, Duke sat up in his newly-opened coffin, brushed some dirt off his crumpled suit, and looked around. Shaking his head, he heaved himself up and out of the coffin and started walking ominously towards Paulie with his hands in his pockets and his hat tilted firmly down over his eyes.

"You know Paulie, that whole 'stick 'em in a coffin' bit is a lot more intimidating if your goons don't scarper like frightened girls when you lift the lid."
He was standing almost toe to toe with the fat mobster now.
"Anyway, as I was saying, you can tell Pegorino he's got the wrong guy, but that's ok; I'm such a reasonable guy, I'll even forgive him for this whole business."
He gestured at the the coffins behind him, frowning as he noticed his wasn't the only coffin with a surprisingly lively occupant.

 

"N-No... Duke! You're supposed to be dead! We put a b-bullet in ya!" he cried, waddling backwards. Paulie dropped his rifle and began to sprint away, leaving his limo behind, open, unlocked, and filled with guns and cash.


Dimitri, done squealing in pain, sat up in his coffin. "I need a medic..." he groaned, placing his damaged hand on the grass, which began to slither up his arm, weaving itself into a bandage around his hand, while plucking out the bits of wood in his hand. Dimitri ignored the grass, as his arm was too numb.

 

Penelope literally jumped out of her coffin, the rigor mortis apparently having worn off quickly in fear of the spider. She patted herself down, seeing if still on her. "Is it gone? Did we kill it? Tell me killed it." she rambled off from fear.

 

Andrew noticed the last man running away and went to where the others were. He saw them getting out of the coffins. He eas not sure what to say, why were they going back to life? He just went with them, having his zweihänder in his shoulder.

 

"Put a bullet in me?" Duke growled, watching Paulie hightailing it; he opened his jacket, and there were indeed several bloody holes in his shirt. "What? no I can't be..."

He stode over to Paulie's limo, and started rooting through the glove box. "Don't make no sense," he muttered to himself as he searched. "Ah ha!" He'd found some cigarettes now at least. Lighting one up, and taking his revolver, which was also in Paulie's glovebox, he made his way back over to the other should-be corpses.

"So who are you people? And do I got to kill any of you for having a hand in this?" He demanded.

 

Dimitri raised his hand and groaned. "I don't think so. I don't particularly remember anything, but I know my name is Dimitri. Anyone got any ideas as to why we were shoved into these boxes? Or why we were called 'zombies'?" he asked, trying to sit up. Glancing at his wrist, he groaned again. "What's with the grass?"

 

"Well, Dimitri, judging by the state of my shirt here, and going by Paulie's stammerings, I've been shot recently. And yet seein' as how I'm walkin' and talkin', I don't seem to be dead; I think that, combined with being liberated from a coffin may explain the 'zombie' remarks."

Duke rubbed the back of his head. "I don't remember much either, so there is the possibility that all this weirdness is down to some kind of hallucinogenic binge." He looked at the grass twisting around Dimitri's hand. "Make that a strong possibility."

 

Duke stared at Nyx and her unnatural shadows, then closed his eyes and started rubbing his temples. "Just a bad trip, just a bad trip..."

 

Andrew arrived with the others. They looked as dead as him, but still all this was quite weird. He just remembered his name and ... that was it. He just looked at all the group there, motionless and speechless.

 

"I woke up in a coffin with a spider in my throat. Something is definitely wrong." Penelope said after coming down a bit. She looked around take stock of everyone and everything. "Yeah, grass is not supposed to do that." She said flatly, seeing the grass move around Dimitri's arm before looking over at Nyx. "Shadows aren't suppose to do that either..."
