Juniper wasn’t looking at any of them, instead looking out across the horizon. Rowan watched Tez affectionately. “Isn’t she beautiful?”
Tez made a face at Rowan. Zerras was busy watching June. After a moment though, her legs would go numb, and she would fall underwater.
Zerras panicked and followed her, diving under. If she looked down she would see that her legs had been replaced by a tail.
She squirmed under the water, trying to get her bearings, bubbles leaving her mouth in surprise as she looked at the tail.
She would find that she would be able to breath. Zerras was only a short distance away. The same thing had happened to him as he looked down at himself. His tail was a grayish red on the top with slight stripes. The underside was a bit lighter. It looks like a tiger shark, almost.
Her tail was a soft orangey-peach, much like the sunset that fell over the horizon the night before. She was gasping for breath, the bubbles still leaving her mouth. Her tail moved instinctively, keeping her stationary in the water and she was trembling, looking around nervously.
Zerras was holding his breath, but finally exhaled, surprised that he could actually breathe. Their vision was clear and they could see through the water.
She looked over at him, her brow furrowed as she swam over to him. She rested her hands on her arms, looking around nervously. “Did you know this was going to happen?”
"How would I have known?" he asked looked around in a small panic. Tez joined them, clearly used to this. "You guys okay?"
She looked over at Tez anxiously, saying nothing. Her hands loosened on Zerras’ arms, and she went to pull away.
She didn't comment, tilting her head. "It's a little nerve wracking at first, but you'll get used to it."
"This way," she said, turning and looking for Rowan for a moment. Zerras frowned, offering his hand anyways.
Rowan was swimming up to them, his tail a silvery purple. Juniper looked down at his hand hesitantly before taking it. Rowan started laughing. “Look at the lovebirds!” Juniper looked up suddenly and went to pull away, looking up at Zerras as if she had been caught stealing.
Tez nudged Rowan. "You've pestered them enough with that," she told him, taking his hand. "Leave them be." Zerras looked over at June. He didn't let go unless she wanted to.
He kissed the back of her hand and Juniper relaxed a little, her fingers brushing the back of his hand gently.
Tez led the way, her movements fluid. Zerras was a little rough around the edges, frowning as he slowly grasped the ropes.
Juniper actually seemed more at ease with less limbs to control. She swam forward, mimicking Tez’s movement with a thoughtful eye.
Eventually Zerras got it, his actions smoothing out. The water was quite pretty underwater. The deeper they went the more alive it seemed. There was fish and colorful coral, bright rock formations all around.
