Okay, so, I've got a severe problem with this ad for a variety of reasons. I'll give 5 of my top concerns here.

    1. The banner is centered on the very top in the page, which not only disrupts my experience, but also makes the top of the site look cluttered; two ads on top of each other don't work. Would it be possible to move them somewhere on the bottom of the page like other sites do? --PROBLEM RESOLVED--

    2. The site is for 18 year olds and up only. A large portion of people on EP are under 18, including myself if that even matters. So what's the point of having the ad? Just to make a quick buck?

That's fine as long as you move it someplace where it doesn't make the forum look bad. (In a physical sense)

    3. It's a dating website. There is always the possibility of something going wrong with this sort of thing; we could have an ungodly amount of depression threads/relationship going bad threads in here that would get very old pretty quickly. Not to mention dating websites are volatile in general and could introduce a whole slew of unforeseen problems.

    4. There is no explanation on-site about what the ad is about, and there are no 'We are not responsible for x happening while using x site' messages. This could harm the site legally. Bad.

    5. This wasn't mentioned anywhere in the CP, so people are unsure how it even came to be, which results in people complaining about said ad, which creates unnecessary problems. Please announce what the ad is, what the site is about, how to use it, and how not to.

I know it seems trivial to rant about an ad on a website, but really. There are a lot of things that can go wrong with this, in many aspects.

The rest of my concerns are just pet peeves of mine, so I won't list them. But I'd love for at least #1 to be addressed.

I have Mozilla and see no ad, Thank you Mozilla! Although it is driving me a little crazy not knowing what any of you ponies are talking about.

As for the double ads I'm sure they'll be incorporating an ad rotator to the site soon. But these are all good points.

I pretty much agree with everything Saikyo said. There are literally dozens of other things you could advertise, so why dating sites specifically?

Adblock all the way. With what i have heard and seen in life one should avoid random relationships from dating sites. Besides can't people just grow a pair, dress up classy and go to the local pub to meet real life people.

King Luna I'm not sure what the pub clientèle is like where you live, but I definitely do not want to be pulling at my locals :ahh:

Besides that, yeah, I think the whole 18+ advert thing is a bad move. I get that you need money and all, but I think in the long run it'll likely do more harm than good.
By all means keep it, don't keep it - I won't argue the point - That's just my initial thoughts on the matter.

I have adblock, so I don't see the ad, or any for that matter.

However, do the rules on this site not very strictly forbid 18+ content, including posting images of or links to 18+ content?

A "do what I say, not what I do" style of leadership does not inspire much confidence, nor is it very effective at convincing people to actually follow the rules. Hell, if you're going to be a hypocrite you could at least not be so blatantly obvious about it.

I wouldn't have said it quite like that, but there's truth to this. If i were you, i'd make arrangements to cancel whatever agreement you have with this BronyMate website and find an alternative source of income. As for the both near and faraway future, you really should think these sort of things through. :v

Mistakes were made, you obviously weren't aware of it at the time (at least i hope not), and what's done is done, but you should do something about it asap if you haven't already.

EDIT: A bit off-topic, but it seems there are no ads at all on the New Everypony Spring theme.

I suppose that's true, but there's still the issue that this particular ad is useless for about half of the site's users because they're not 18 yet, causing BronyMate to pay full price for only a fraction of what they're actually expecting from this arrangement. If they're not getting the results they were expecting, they might not pay EP to advertise them anymore.

That is for them to decide. For now, we're going to continue to do business as they're site seems perfectly reasonable and it supports the upkeep of Everypony. Whether or not it applies to all of EP doesn't matter as they're still liable to be eligible members on the site that could be interested. Simply because it's not necessarily for you doesn't mean it shouldn't be on the site. The age range of a Brony is quite large, possibly into their 40's.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say there, but i'm gonna halt this conversation before it gets out of hand.

The thing is, this thread sums up quite a few good reasons for why the bronymate ad is a bad idea. Several members agree that it's a bad idea. It's up to the staff to decide what to do with it. I've done what i can to make my point (sort of by simply repeating what Saikyo already said, but whatever). I'm just gonna retire from this thread until there's further reason to discuss it, which at this point, there isn't.

An easier solution would just be to actually donate to EP so they wouldn't need to have ads in the first place... =P

I might make a monthly payment or something. I've already made one at least.

I just think the concept of having a site that:

    1. Says in it's TOS that it's for 18 years of age and up; whether or not it has explicit content doesn't matter as the site literally says, as per it's terms of service, that it is for use only by people of 18 years of age or older.

    2. Is barely two months old and has a negative reputation even with bronies themselves.

    3. As Rarit has said, even if they are offering to do so, you guys are basically just taking Brony Mate's money for free, because of the userbase here; now to you guys it seems 'Yay free money' but in reality, it looks bad to potential advertisers and even potential users sometimes. If they saw this thread and saw that they're paying you to put an ad onto their website, and their ad doesn't even apply to a majority of the userbase, is promoting an adult environment, and pretty much every other Ad no-no under the sun, they're going to want nothing to do with the site.

In short: You're shafting Brony Mate and you think it's okay because they offered to. That's terrible business practice. That's like someone giving you a five course meal and you pay them back with a stick of gum. It makes you look like a freeloader and dishonest to other advertisers, which then harms the site anyway.

But still, it's whatever. You can say just how good the ad is for the site all you want, it's still just a bad idea that could blow up in everyone's faces if they're not careful about it.

Ok. I'm nipping this in the bud. It has gone on too far. Everything before is hearsay and conjecture for the 18+ years old item.

The FACT is that they are a pay site, and as such, legally they can only accept payments from people 18 years or older. That's it. Everything else is a wild guess.

Let this cool off please. If you don't want to go to their site, don't click the link. Thank you.

    and...
