I was wondering if I'm allowed to post a link to another site... It's just a site i created, MLP related, it's roleplaying and everything... But I can't seem to find a place to place it. I'm thinking that maybe it's not allowed, but I'd like an answer. So... Am i allowed to post that link? And if i am... is there a specific place to post it?
As long as it doesn't contain any 18+ or any obscene content, it's fine to post. I'd say the best place to put it would probably be in your sig.
If it's to a site you've created, it would be classed as Advertisement. Talk to the admins about permission to post it.
If it's your own site, the best places for it might be your sig, or in the Home Page URL field and it will appear on your profile page under your profile pic. - - Auto Merge - - I would not think that simply posting one's own site to be advertising, that's really just sharing. This is kinda an advertisement, but I guess it's fine cause it's a project thing?
Putting your homepage like Mike and Frost suggested is the best way. There isn't a specific thread or whatnot for advertisements. As for the musical link, I looked through it when it first posted and it's not actually selling anything, just looking for people to help on the project.
I think that the musical one would be fine because it is definitely the project being promoted and not the site it's being done on as a whole. In fact the site it's done on is Tumblr which equates to no revenue being generated by the project, so indeed it's perfectly fine. An advertising problem, for example, would be if I were to post a link to the forums I come from and try to convince people to spend time there. It would be taking away the community in the form of potentially lost members, taking from the site in the form of less advertising revenue, and move those ad views instead to a different place. Avoiding that is why I'm so cautious about mentioning the place I come from. Hopefully as I spend more time here I won't feel the need to mention it at all, because I talk about it a lot. >< Anyway, that's my personal take on the advertising rule. Obviously whenever there's any question about it, just bring it up with a friendly staff member. ^^
