Hello there everypony! Foxytail, your community exec here to talk about a few things I've noticed trending in our community recently. Unfortunately, it's not all good, but I promise there's good news at the end so stick with me!

First of all, I've noticed threads about suicide, depression and general "I don't find this fun anymore" popping up here and there. I want to say how proud I am of the rest of the community for always being there for these people and giving them good, honest advice that will truly help them. I like to think lives have been changed and possibley even saved because of our community, and words cannot express how happy that makes me. Some say that with the onset of winter, depression often sets in as the weather turns colder and darker. I hope we can all get past this and still have the fun that summer brought, with our hoofsies tucked warm at home and time off work to play! We are always open to suggestions and ideas on how we can improve things and make things exciting so feel free to PM me or the other staff about ideas you may have! We have lots of events planned in the coming months, including a halloween surprise and of course karaoke night the night after halloween to chase those spooky ghosts away!

Secondly, I've got to say a few words about the RP chat. There has been quite a few complaints about it, and some have taken to RPing in the Everypony Radio chat to get away from this. Firstly, I'd like to remind you all about the rules about RPing in the chat. We understand you like to have fun, but we do have an RP Chat for a reason. Concerning the RP chat and its complaints, the moderators have been discussing this issue and we're leaning towards a major restructuring and possible removal for sometime, maybe indefinitely. It's a tough choice to make as we all feel that we shouldn't need to take such harsh action, but it remains to be the source of a large number of complaints for various reasons. Feel free to reply to this news post with ideas on how one could save it, and we'll take them into consideration. I'd also like to remind everypony that the mods are to be respected at all times, both new and senior!

Lastly, I'd like you all to read this. It concerns an issue that worries many members and staff and is the cause of a growing number of concerns. If you have any information regarding this, please do not hesitate to tell any staff member, especially the Community Patrol Team.

[HR][/HR]So What's Up With the RP Chat?

So yeah, if you frequent the RP chat you'll have seen that it's pretty much been all over the place, restructured one second, removed the next, so on and so forth:

So what's up with it?

Well you see on any server plan like our own, you can only have so many simultaneous connections to the site at once if you're not going to either host it on your own server that can support the load or buy a much more expensive plan - normally this isn't a problem with forums because while you can have 80+ people browsing the forum at once, the likelihood of them connecting at the exact same time, and enough of them connecting at the exact same time, is so low that reaching the limit is a fairly difficult task to do. On site RP chat clients are very intensive of the server because they facilitate the connections of all users on them at the same time, so in other words while you're in the RP chat you maintain a constant connection to the site - get enough users doing this and I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this (at that point reaching the number of simultaneous connections is fairly easy). So yeah, that's why it's no longer here - to try and avert this issue it was re-setup offsite on another domain (Flash's own server) with the site's name on it, well while his plan never gave him a limit he had been contacted directly by his host to take the chat down for being too server intensive.

So where does that leave the RP chat now?

Well it's up.... sort of. We have found an alternative that isn't server intensive that is being hosted here:
http://everyponychat.dyndns.org/

So if it's up where's the "sort of" come into play?

Well let's be honest here, many problems with the site have stemmed from the RP chat and it has fostered plenty of enemies, on top of that it's becoming unruly for many users and we don't plan to stand for this - both me and Grey have considered it's removal entirely from the site, and quite frankly to me that is still looking quite attractive. So here's the deal, a sort of "last chance" for you guys to prove to us that we can have nice things without people ruining them for others. We will be restructuring the RP chat, if you want your opinion heard on it please make it known >>here<<. We will be tightening the rules and watching you guys very carefully (and I mean very carefully).

This is your time to prove to us that we can have an RP chat, abuse it and I can assure you that we will have no problem removing it, this time permanently.

If you've been on the radio page recently you've probably noticed the change in the theme with the label "Everypony Network," if you're extra observant you've probably noticed this announcement here. So what does this mean? Well first check the FAQ I just linked in the previous sentence for a thorough explanation, for the TLR version it's this: we're basically working to connect the site together more fluently, consider that the bridge that connects the forums, livestream, youtube, etc. So what does this mean for you? Easier navigation of the site and all it's proponents and affiliates. We hope to bring you even more services in the future too.
