*insert Futrama joke here* Can we get a mod or admin to sticky this? It seems just as important as the Your Face thread.
I totally found out what my family motto is! It seem so be "In rebus aretis." The problem is, I have no idea what language that is, or what it means. I'm guessing it's Latin, but I have no idea what the second two words mean in Latin. Could somepony lend me a hoof with this? I'm stuck. And now we all know why I like that show.
Right? Well, it's hard to tell what side of the family that motto is from. If it's British, it might not be mine. My grandfather always said that he thought "Fry" was just a shortened version of some German name. But then why the family crest? It's all so odd.
In that case, it probaly doesn't pertain to my immediate family. Our name is German. Oh well. I did recently interpret our coat of arms, though.
So, as you probably don't know, I come from a line of Scottish heritage. Both sides of my family are part Scottish, my mum's side more so. My dad's side, bares the surname of Simpson, which is a name that strings off the Fraser Clan of Scotland. Fraser Clan Tartan and crest: Then with my mum's side, which bares the name of Forbes, which is the head name of the Forbes Clan. Forbes Clan Tartan and crest: All the information would take a long time to type... so I'll leave it.
My family tree abruptly ends on one side (the interesting side, too). The family story is that my great great grandfather married a native american. However, there are a few interesting points. -My grandfather (dead) is credited with shooting down the first Japanese fighter in WWII, but he says it was his friend in the plane next to him -I descended from the Fraser clan (Scottish), and hey, I even kept the name And that's all I can remember. I'll have to dig around sometime.
My great (Times Something) grandfather was a huge noble in England. Huge as in fat. He weighed almost 400 pounds. He was also very rich and according to my grandfather, very kind to his serfs/servants.
@Radapony, it's great to see all the enthusiasm but stop the cursing and violent remarks please. That goes for Everypony. - Edited several posts on the first page.
Radaboy, realizing what he has done and having been publicly humiliated, shuts himself out from Everypony and prepares for bannination....Then realizes he needs to continue on with his daily life and returns to Everypony, apologizing to everypony there. Yay! I even come with my own moral.
Well, I'm not sure about several generations back or anything, but there's some Irish, German, and Native American flowing through mah veins. Anyone who knows about various races always feels bad for my boyfriend when they find out I'm Irish and Blackfoot. It's a fairly volatile mix. I do know that our coat of arms is this, however. My gryphon has a DAGGER! B] Yeeaaaahhhh. The latin means "Death before dishonor" Some awesome things my grandfather did in his youth (he died in '88, I was born in '89, so I never got to meet him, sadly): *Chased his sister around the house with a butcher's knife just to see how fast she could run *Got on his town's top 10 most wanted list for stealing a live turkey *Walked out on a partially built bridge just to collect some money he owed him. $5 that he owed him. *He walked home drunk from a bar one night and fell in a hole. He spent hours trying to claw his way out. Finally... freedom! He went back the next day to fill it in, because if a full grown man had trouble, what if a kid or an animal fell in? He goes back... and the hole is about a foot deep. He'd just fallen on his stomach =B Also, my Great Great Uncle Henry died by falling asleep drunk on the train tracks and got cut in half by a train. Can you tell we're Irish? =B
Also, my Great Great Uncle Tug died by getting so into a boxing match on the radio or whatever that he gave himself a heart attack and died. And my mom's dad would hop the trains to go into downtown to do his business, and then he'd hop another train to go back home. He did this so much that the train conductors would slow down to let him on and off. I love my family xD
My family's motto has been Neutiquam Erro for the longest time, which means 'I am not lost.' In Latin.
Flintoff: First found in Yorkshire where they held a family seat as Lords of the Manor. The Saxon influence of English history diminished after the Battle of Hastings in 1066. The language of the courts was French for the next three centuries and the Norman ambience prevailed. But Saxon surnames survived and the family name was first referenced in the year 13th century in the Yarm district of North Yorkshire. I know next to nothing of my ancestry. I guess its time to visit my grandmother (she does ancestry as a hobby). I know I'm descended from Scottish, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, and I'm pretty sure Russian somewhere...
I'm Welsh and Irish (3/8 each) on my Dad's side, and English (1/4) on my Mum's side. When I hear the surname "Fry", I always think of Stephen Fry for some reason. Well, my dad looks like he's in the YMCA. He's 54.
