Need an Avatar change

Have you heard of Google?

 

The ancient texts speak of a wondrous place, home to great magic... and also great evil.

 

By the gods, you can't just ask other people to post other people's art here. You have to get permission from the artist who drew the image before you use it.

 

I'm not so sure. It would of course be polite to do so, but free use might cover using an image as your avatar.

 

It does, otherwise we'd all be screwed. Half of my avatars are screenshots.

 

I kinda figured. I understand why it's nice to give credit for fan-art and vectors, but all the same as long as you're not claiming you made it I don't really see the problem. I think there are just different genre conventions for displaying visual art.

I just take the picture from google and set it as my avatar, trying to go on a quest to find the artist and ask them is too much time consuming, so I just don't care.

 

Both my current avatar and my Profile pic are things I've had others draw for me. The profile pic is from Pip of Sins Venial, and the current avatar is from Ryan Smith of Funny Farm. Of course the character of Lioconvoy is owned by Hasbro and Takara. Still I've never heard of needing permission from the artist to make an avatar of their work.
