"No, you don't. You smell like... I can't quite place it." She settled her head on his chest, listening to his heart as she closed her eyes for a moment. "I mean, you always smell like your cologne, but there's something else too. Something from my childhood..." There was a silence as she tried to place it before she spoke, her tone bright. "Oh, you know what it is? You smell like freshly cleaned sheets."
He looked down at her softly, brushing her hair back slowly. "Yeah..? That's not a bad thing to smell like."
Her eyes were closed and her black hair was still a little damp from her shower, slipping through his fingers. The sheet that was holding it back had loosened from its knot and had sunk down around her shoulders. "Of course it's not," she replied. "It smells like you."
She opened her eyes, looking up at him cheerfully. "Okay," she said, pulling away from him and going to the other side of the bed. "What'd you get from the nook?"
Lines formed in between her eyebrows as she frowned, her gaze flickering up at him. "Of course, Abes," she said, sounding a little confused. "Why wouldn't it be?"
"No, but it might be nice to get them anyway," she said, setting the pillows down before heading back into the bathroom to continue cleaning. "Just in case."
The bathroom smelled like bleach, but she had done considerable work in here too. The window was open, presumably to air it out. "In case we have to run again. In fact..." She turned to him, her gaze distracted. "It might be a good idea for us to assemble a kit of sorts and hide it in the city. So we have things to use if we have to leave this place."
She considered this, stepping into the shower and picked up a scrub brush she had set down earlier. "That's a good idea... if that's the case, we should go back there today or tomorrow and get it all compact so no one sees it."
She pulled her long hair back in a ponytail before beginning to scrub the shower, climbing onto the edge of the tub precariously to clean the top tiles.
