I have never really checked the site out before, but I would like to get opinions on it. I have heard good things about it, but mostly bad things.
4chan is an image board; there are many like it, but only one of them is 4chan. I have no idea what else say on the matter. Speaking from past experience, it doesn't dramatically differ from other channel-driven image boards save in the number of people that frequent it.
4Chan, aka The Sphincter of the Internet, is the place where decency goes to die. Avoid it at all costs. There are things on that site that cannot be unseen.
Pretty much all of which are accessible through other mediums (ie. Google), but most people still use those. A lot of stigma against 4chan seems to originate from a very select group of boards.
While it's true that perversion and degeneracy exists all over the internet, it seems that a disproportionate amount of it is found on 4Chan. There's something about perceived anonymity that brings out the worst in people.
4chan being the scourge of the internet is kind of an urban myth (though it's true to some extent), but i never really bothered with that site in the first place.
It's not that nice of place but watch your words and actions carefully and it can be a pretty good place/ albeit disturbing at sometimes place. It's kinda like Tumblr, they'll yell at you on trivial things but at least they tend to forget about it five minutes later. And Scruffy (What I assume to be the mod there.) tends to keep /mlp/ free of R34 often. (Just never mention 9Gag or anything approvingly.)
4chan is both wonderful and terrible, but luckily, the good and the terrible are mostly separated by the boards. For example, I'm mostly around /vr/, which is a perfectly work-safe board, with pretty friendly people who'll give you advice or help with anything /vr/ related, should you ask for it. Other boards, however, tend to be full of more cynical pricks. Accepted quality of posts also varies from board to board. Now, /b/ is a terrible board. But /s4s/ is a nice board. How good 4chan is depends on what you're interested in, where you go, and what you post. PS; Never fill the Email or name fields (other than to #fortune)
Sage goes in all fields I usually browse through /wg/ if I'm in the mood to expand my collection of wallpapers or to just look. /v/ has good threads once in a blue moon though most of the time it's mindless drivel. It's a roulette really, just always expect the worse.
I don't like it. 4chan gives nasty, little middle school kids the opportunity to bully people much older than themselves. That's my problem with the internet in general - exhorting mean 14 year olds, but 4chan seems like a Mecca for bullies.
4Chan can either be the greatest or worst thing you ever experiance, if you are a forum veteran you should be safe. Just try to have a definate idea of what you are looking to get out of it. If you just explore aimlessly you could end up walking in to something that will scar you forever, but with a little luck you will find some cool threads. It is pretty similar to any forum website, except the bad is worse and the good is still just good. So if you have never been, good luck and be careful.
Your typical 4chan post, ladies and gentlemen. I recommend staying away from that online abomination AT ALL COSTS.
This is something you might find in say /b/. This is not something you might find in board like /int/. If you tried posting this in /int/ or a similar board, you would be banned rather quickly.
Its.... Its..uh... Impossible to describe. I've never been since my anti virus has a panic attack whenever i try to go.
4chan is the greatest thing on the internet as well as the worst. A lot of great things have come out of it but most of th stuff is pretty messed up. I think it is one of the funniest sites out there though.
