He looked down at her gently, his eyes soft. "Wherever he is, you shouldn't worry. This isn't your fault." He slipped on his helmet. "I need to go back to the Ortus and tell them."
He looked down at her, giving her a small smile. "I always am. Will you... would you come with me? I'm sorry, I hate to ask you in the middle of the night, but you have all the information."
He raised an eyebrow. "What? No, of course not. I just need you to be able to identify him if we see him."
She came up to him once she was ready, opening the door. "He said he was doing repairs to it, and tinkering in it, but I didn't believe him."
"No, I know," he said reassuringly. "I know, Cal. You don't need to worry about it. You did all you could."
(Zoop!) The rest of the night passed fairly smoothly. They had managed to get a sketch of the individual based on Calliope's memory, but not much else had been discovered from the information. The gathering of Magyck from the Ortus had been canceled and many travelers were upset, but Puck reassured her that it was a temporary measure. He was standing in the water now, looking up at the Ortus, his hands on his hips. "I suppose there's no reason for the other three species to close their borders..."
He seemed unconvinced, pacing a little. “Then this is worse than we thought,” he said gravely. “I don’t trust the humans. For good reason. We need to send a diplomat over to see what we can find out.”
