To be honest, i'm not particularly against the "like button" idea. However, it could greatly reduce the amount of posts people would make, and the forum section of EPR isn't all that active as it is.
I hadn't thought of that aspect. If a user could 'put their 2 cents in' with the like button, it probably would cut down on the need to go on and post. I think it enhances goodwill overall. I've used it to like posts I'd thought were funny, too. It's nice to know someone liked your post, like a pat on back.
It seemed to work fine with the system we have now. See you liked Rarit e's post more then mine, so you quoted. Same thing as a like button. You know except one just quote instead. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
Now that i think about it, we used to have a reputation system for that. Alltogether it's no different from a like button. I'm sure that whatever reason they had to remove it was a good one... EDIT: didn't see that post earlier... Well yeah, i guess Echoax does have a point too.
Seriously, did no one read my post. I mentioned the rep system. Why do I even bother. EDIT: Nevermind. Somehow I finally got spotted. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
Wow, you guys are really thin skinned. It's easy to overthink things like this. I didn't ignore your post it basically spoke for itself, a re-stating of your position. The point to my posting the story, we could go through so many imagined faults to anything here that we'd wind up doing nothing, and being proud of the 'effort'..
I think one of the reasons they got rid of the rep system is because it made others seem superior/inferior to others. Post count doesn't mean much but reputation shows popularity. The more popular members may make the less popular members feel less important. Although I think the main reason that it got removed was because it could've been abused easily. As they couldn't trust a few members, they decided it would be best to do away with it. At least that's what I think. Personally, I quite liked the rep system. But if it doesn't make everyone on the site feel equal, then it would be best to not use it.
Agh, this thread has no point anymore. As was proved by communism, equality can only be achieved by the majority going without. This was over when the admin said no. Thread should have been closed then.
Like buttons can be abused. People can just click 'Like' because they're a friend of theirs or whatever. It all goes back to the rep situation. No likes. Not for me anyways. Also, please refrain from using insults. If you have to find some way to improve the site, do it in a constructive manner instead of using witty comebacks. For one thing, it doesn't help your position, for another, it's just downright rude.
Hey Adnoil, IDK about any of this stuff, but just a bit of advice: When you suggest something, and someone else says it won't work, or it's dumb, don't say that they are wrong. Ask them why it won't work, instead. Then everyone, including you, can see their reasoning and work through it, and big hurt-fests like this thread appears to be will happen a lot less. I find that someone asking me to explain myself is a lot less insulting than someone telling me I'm wrong. Personally, aside from a few very minor changes, I like the site the way it is.
I think this thread has served its purpose and will not go anywhere constructive anymore. Thank you for the input Adnoil and we certainly appreciate the effort in trying to help improve the site. In that regard we certainly can't fault you, and you have my personal respect for taking the effort to do so. ~Closed~
