My Dear Fillies and Gentlecolts Gather round, for we have some work to do.... On my travels through the internet I came upon the site a site known as Kiva, which for those not in the know, is an organization that allows people to lend money via the Internet to microfinance institutions in developing countries around the world and in the United States. This money is then loaned to small businesses and students.* I clicked on the site to see if there was a Brony community on the site to see how well we were doing in donating to such a wonderful cause. To my horror I found a group and yet not a single dollar had been raised... NOT...ONE...DOLLAR! This...Will not do my fellow Ponyites. The fact that we have a community as large as this who regularly speaks out against the ills of the world; the fact that we have a main character (Rarity) who is the Element of Generosity, and yet not one of our brothers and sisters have donated under the name Brony is wrong I tell you, simply wrong. So I am here to start a small campaign on Everypony Network to spread the word about this site and other noteworthy charities, organizations and general groups that are trying to make our world a better and more MLP approved place. Uh crud. I joined but I forgot that I'm not supposed to give my disability money to charity. I am in teh soup now 8|. This is a horrible start, isn't it 8{?
nbunomad@ That's fine for this group, how about you help and find other groups or maybe look for groups to volunteer at. Same to you Tommy. Plus if money donations are an issue, simple donates items to the Goodwill or Can/Food/Coat/Winter Clothing/Toy drives since they are especially big this time of year.
I have to say this is a wonderful idea and if I could spare anything I would. I feel bad for not being able to donate for a greater cause
I still live with my parents. I don't need to provide myself with food and clothing, and I do have some pocket money / salery. So I guess this is my chance to actually start doing something for this world I keep preaching about. I'll check out this website, see what things they support etc. I could start transferring a small monthly sum. I really hope more ponies are willing to at least respond to this thread.
Ok, I think everypony is missing the point of this thread. While I had posted the Kiva site, I had hoped that people while maybe not being able to give to that group would suggest other groups or ways to spread better bronisum. Since the show at its core is about spreading the ideas of friendship. I felt we could take those ideas and use them as jumping off points for both charity as well as simply making the world a better place. Here are a few examples. First one would be simply taking the main characters and pick what types of charactiers they could represent. Character: Apple Jack Element: Honesity (possibly Zen) Charities: Agriculture, Family oriented ones, Grass Root Business. Second one could be based off an episode. Season 1: Episode: 8 Name: "Look Before You Sleep" Lesson: Rarity and Applejack both learned that they can embrace each other’s differences and discover a way to be friends. Charities: Tolerance organization, Anti-hate group organization. Finally, if we really wanted to be fun we could take background ponies and have them represent groups or causes. Pony: Berry Punch Cause/Group: Alcohol Abuse cause. This was what I was hoping this thread and project could become, since I’m sure everyone has a favorite charity or at least knows of a charity/group/cause they believe in. I hope this clears up what I’m aiming for and maybe now we can work together on this project. ~ Crumpet
Ok, so thought I would bump this thread and throw a few ideas about two of the favorite fan ponies as examples and what charities they could represent so that maybe some of you guys might dig it and post a bit more here. So going with the third idea, DJ Pon3 aka Vinyl Scratch, and Octavia. Pandora Radio has teamed up with Global Giving and they have listed a few music related charities so I thought these ones might be good starter groups. Also since we do have a lot of musicians and DJ's here, have any of you ever played for charity related gigs or community ones for children, elderly, sick and so on as your audience? Have any of you ever thought to volunteer to play for these demographics or possiblely look into the healing music movements?
*still supporting* When I get my monthly payment in a few days I'll lay 25 dollars aside to keep making loans. (it have to be dollars, right?) I like the idea about pony-related goals. When we collectively loan to one target it might make more of a difference. More ponies?
*yay supports* D 25 dollars and up for Kiva. As for one group on Kiva, I think that would be nice to pick out people we equally want to give to. Though keep in mind the pony group on there is not mine. As for other charities to focus on, if we want pony related, then would anyone be up for Equestrian types of groups?
