(Seriously how is one of these not set up yet? Dayum.) *ahem* So, Guitars. Very popular instruments with a million different styles, shapes, tones and purposes, each with their own unique characteristics. I won't bore you with silly details because if you're here, you most likely know a bit about guitars (and most likely own/play one). This thread is for guitar & amp discussion, either discussing your own, ones you want, or projects you've got on the go with your guitars (hell, I'll even allow discussion of the internal components and what makes a good guitar!) I'll start. I have a pretty decent collection but surprisingly no amp - I do all my playing and recording through my computer. Goes a bit like this: Guitar > Line6 TonePort GX > Guitar Rig 5 or Amplitube 3 > REAPER (DAW) I quite like this setup because it offers infinite flexibility. One minute I could be playing metal ala Bronyfied, next could be playing classic blues. As for the guitars I have, here is my collection in order from most favorite to least. 1. Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty. View attachment 5971 I bought this in 2007 from a music store in Cambridge for a fair few queen golds, but I cannot regret the purchase in any way. I recently had it serviced and it had never sounded so good. I can call upon all the classic "Les Paul" sounds yet still maintain a nice clean clarity when needed. Sustains well and true. I don't need a gibson. 2. Yamaha Pacifica 112 JMX View attachment 5972 I find these guitars a bit of a rarity, especially in the configuration I got it in. 3pc Alder body with a maple neck and fretboard (<3), black scratchplate and pickups. That was in 2009 though. Since then, I've swapped the pickups out with some IronGear ones - A blues engine in the bridge and Texas Locos in Middle & Neck. I also completely rearranged the switching methods too. 3 DPDT switches toggle each pickup individually, which means I can call upon all the standard arrangements, PLUS all on, or I can have the Neck and Bridge active - Something previously not possible. The gold switch is a tone and volume bypass, which boosts the output by about 20% (hur). The guitar has/had some drawbacks though. Sticking any sort of gain on it would bring out a really annoying buzz, but I've taken it upon myself to fix that. The pic is of the guitar earlier today. Here it is now. View attachment 5973 ...Yeah. I'll be sure to post a demo of how it sounds post-fixup. 3. Vintage VRS100 (First Gen) Picked this up from ebay for a wee bit. I find it's a nice guitar and sustains the most outta all my kit, buuut... it is a pain in the flank to tune (because it's got a floating bridge) and lacks some of the beefyness one might find in a Les Paul. Colours' nice though. 2 tone Red and Orange burst with a flamed maple top. 4. Fender Squier Standard Strat (modified) This guitar has the most regrets. It was my first one which I purchased in '07 and then had the idea to modify it into HH with a couple of Seymour Duncans. It needs a lot of work and the tone's not that great so I hardly ever use it. In terms of strings, I usually use Curt Mangan 10-46's though for the Pacifica I find myself using 9-42. You probably haven't heard of Curt Mangan, and I don't blame you. There's only one retailer in the UK that sells them, but personally I swear by them. I found them much more musical in comparison to Ernie Balls. To each his own though. Now go post your stuff!
I want a black beauty!!! :O Or a Metal Madter Warlock. I've heard that they don't play that well, but they look so bad *four five five* but I'd like to try one out and decide for myself weather or not I like it. The amp I got for my electric is a Line 6 Spider III and the guitar I have is an Ibanez AM73, who I've named Chris (http://cachepe.zzounds.com/media/quality,85/AM73TBR-8520f6967e595f6ea14f4415b90107ae.jpg) tuned to Drop C. It plas pretty good for a hollow body trying to play death metal ;P i also have a Schecter Raiden Special-4, who I named Leslie (http://www.samash.com/wcsstore/root/Items/IP_S/S2811XXXX_ip.jpg) for which I have a Fender Rumble 30 (http://images.guitarcenter.com/products/full/Fender/633982131815917323.jpg) to shake the house. I play Chris more than Leslie but I intend to get more into bass as I go on. (the colors of the equipment in the photos matches all of my own btw) All that aside, what style you play? ///w^\
*looks up Warlocks' specs* Hm.. At a glance it's not bad but the bolt on neck is worrying - That's usually reserved for strats (not that there's anything wrong, it's just unusual to see it coupled to a mahogany body). Can't say I've ever seen a hollowbody tuned to Drop C. It looks like the most unusual guitar for the job. That bass looks nice though, but I know little about them (I'm more of a guitar guy). In terms of style.. I experiment but I usually do rock, blues and related stuff, though I've been dialing in on some of Bronyfied's tones with a nice thick sound to it. As you might have read, I'm working on my Yamaha Pacifica which can do blues and most other styles without much issue.
One of my best buddies practices bass guitar now!!! :3 I wanna hear her play over vocaroo recording sometime.... ^_^'
I don't actually own an electric guitar. But thanks to my Engineering exam, I know quite a bit on how they work. I'd actually learn to play the guitar, but I'm just too lazy to get one. Even if I did get one, I'd probably be too lazy to learn it.
If I got an electric guitar. I'd try practicing Pokemon, Kirby, and, Pony tunes on it!!! XD Dunno if it'd work for kh music...
I like my guitars like I like my... guitars. Unplugged. It's a Fina FAC-1050, and it sounds nice. Bought it after my last one broke some years back. I also have an electric guitar, an Apollo, but I'm too lazy to go dig that one up.
I don't know what brand mine is. I haven't picked it up since summer. Which really upsets me. Just like my neglection of drawing
I'm something of a Rickenbacker addict (hence the username...). They seem to be a bit of a "love it or hate it guitar"...I love them! I've got a 330 6 string and a 381V69 12 string. I see a couple of folks have got Epiphones which are great guitars IMO. I've got an Epiphone SG that I've modified with P90 pickups (and a custom scratchplate to fit them), trying to go for that "Live at Leeds" sound... Amp wise, having struggled along with cheapo stuff for years I got hold of a 4x10" Mesa Engineering valve combo and a few years back I managed to snag one of the Korg reissue Vox AC30s on eBay. I've also got 12 string Yamaha acoustic, a Squire Jazz bass, a couple of mandolins, a couple of bouzoukis (I'm into the whole folk thing as well as rock/indie stuff) and a much reduced bank account...
How do the P90's sound? I was going to buy an Epiphone Custom Dot Royale which had two P90's but I never got a chance to try before I bought. I hear they have a rather distinct tone to them, and are pretty versatile.
I think I'd describe the P90s I've got as somewhere between a Fender style single coil and a humbucker. They can still do that single coil "chime" but with a fatter over-all sound. Mine aren't the hottest as I was going for more of a vintage style but they can sound pretty heavy with distortion and the neck pickup does a nice smooth bluesy solo sound with some overdrive. So yeah, I'd say they're versatile as they're good clean (particularly the bridge) and work well with overdrive and on into some fairly heavy distortion too. And now I'm sounding like a guitar magazine reviewer...oh dear...
