    To be fair, if you're really attached to a name, (As some people are) it's kind of hard to come up with one on the go/have a backup.

    I don't really think it's all that unfair to change the usernames of/disable the accounts of people who are inactive for more than 6 months, and not only for this reason.

    You've come up with plenty of names already. Any of them would be viable. Yes you didn't have them at the time, but that isn't exactly the point.

    What's in a name?

    Since I see usernames on the forum as a kind of preferred identification, this idea doesn't make much sense to me. Taking a username that used to belong to somebody else is just weird to me. It would feel strange to me if, say, a new member joined today and his/her name was DoubleRainbowDash or Foxytail. I actually enjoy the different permutations in names that allow users to be creative when naming themselves. Adding numbers, spaces or other characters can transform to identical names into two different ones. If you don't get the username you wanted, that's unfortunate but not the end of the world.

    I was on another forum at one time where they used that system. I think one year is a good time-frame, if we do end up doing this.

    omg OP so true! The amount of times I've viewed a thread and all the posts are from Rainbow Dashes! And they're all inactive for the past 5 days!! I wanted that name!!!

    ^ Take that as you wish. It's a username, stop moaning about it. We're hardly swimming in posts from the mane six.

    Don't need to be an asshat about it. *****ing about being offline for 5 days is a pathetic thing to do, a year however, is more reasonable.

    Not particularly, what you described was a new*squee!* complaining about something that would be easily resolvable in the course of a few days. A year long absence of a user may indicate they're not planning on getting online anymore, of such.

    And besides the point, you paraphrased what I said to make me sound like a whiny little **** who can't type worth a damn. You also proved my point with the "We're not exactly swimming in posts by the Mane 6". Why do they have such a desirable name if they're not online? I have a fond attachment to the name(s) Dante and Tony Redgrave, and in the off chance they'd not be free, I'd probably not be here. They're names I've stuck with for years, and people who develop an online identity have a hard chance giving it up.

    While the wording of your statement was... well, eh, I agree with what you said, Dante.

    Let's stop reading right here.

    Actually no, let's carry on. You are whining, and you're whining about something pointless that isn't affecting anyone. So what if they aren't active, just because it's the name you want, doesn't mean you're entitled to it.

    Never said you were, I said that people who may want it cannot have it because the person who is holding it isn't online. And apparently more people care than it seems, judging by the amount of posts in this thread. However, regardless of if you don't care or not, there is no reason to come in here and directly insult me over something as small as an opinion I have. By this, I kindly ask you to stop.

    We'll consider Dante's suggestion and see what we can do. And with that said, there's no further need to discuss this. I'm gonna lock this before things get out of hand.

    As for recent happenings:
    @Miggy: Is it that hard to just be nice for once?
    @Dante: Report, don't retort.
