of all the above comments of America caring about nothing but money id like to point out the basic knowledge of Capitalism is that the country is organized and survives off of making money if it doesn't make money then this country cant survive and will have to be forced to become a socialist country or possibly a communist one.

so the point is this America may not be the perfect country it claims to be but at least its still alive and that's something to be considered for a country that started off as a group of rebel soldiers

also, we have satellites for the purpose of shooting down missiles seance Reagan was in office and there's much, much worse things a country with that kind of power can do to its citizens besides make them get off there lazy flank for 5 seconds

You don't have any rights as an "American." You have natural rights as a human being. Rights are not given to you.

This isn't a regular thing? Just out of the blue?

    Excellent!

    Oh dear, you lost me.

Since when do you have to salute the flag during the pledge? Everyone just puts their hands over their hearts and takes off their hats. Only active duty military personnel are "allowed" to salute the flag, anyway (according to the regulations). I could understand the crazy public schools getting you in trouble for not saying it, but I highly doubt it was not saluting the flag. Unless you go to a crazy military school or something.

Or call the local news. They eat this stuff up.

Of course they're not right. They're violent idiots. The pledge of allegiance was written by a wacko religious socialist.

Actually, the country where they didn't "care about money" was the Soviet Union. Before you go making ridiculous claims about money being evil and all, perhaps it would be best to understand the origin and nature of money, economics in general, and interpersonal relationships. For your fascist public school problem in particular, screw them, they're idiots, that's why they work there and not at a real job that doesn't rely on violence and brainwashing to get a paycheck.

Seems legit. Could understand if you where in an establishment where you where excepted (To a degree) to be patriotic (such as the military) and refused.

As much as I love England and her flag, I wouldn't let myself be forced into singing God Save the King every morning.

Actually, yes, I would. I'd do it on my own accord. The British Empire is awesome and we rule the waves.

Do I mind? Not at all. Why? Because we are not required to be patriotic nor fanatic.
Simply respectful of those who do.

Oh, and propaganda. Lots of that everywhere, especially in our "liberal" Ontario.

Hint: The "Liberal" party is actually more of an elitist/fascist party. Who knew?

That picture was taken ages ago.
I now have all that, plus a rug, coasters, poster, 4 canvases, a magnet and a seat cushion.

    I love the Union Jack.
And also my mum won't stop buying me these things.

They obviously violated your right to symbolic freedom of speech. A notable case that you could bring up would be Texas v. Johnson, where Johnson burned the American flag. Tinker v. Des Moines would also be something to bring up as what you are doing is not in any way causing a disruption to your class or school as a whole.

    I do love me some Adam Savage;

And Mane is right; that little Soviet States thing was rather stupid of me to put down. Changing that now.

The school cannot force you to pledge to the flag. Here is proof off of Wikipedia. Also, you can just check the ruling on the West Virginia State Board Education v. Barnette case.

"In 1943 the Supreme Court reversed its decision, ruling in West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette that public school students are not required to say the Pledge, concluding that "compulsory unification of opinion" violates the First Amendment. In a later opinion, the Court held that students are also not required to stand for the Pledge."

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pledge_of_Allegiance

So, yes, call your lawyer up. The school has no right to do what it just did. Also, how do your parents feel about this matter?

Sometimes everyone will be standing and saluting and I'll be the only one actually saying the pledge. Sometimes I don't get up from my chair at all. I've never gotten in trouble either way, but I have gotten some weird looks. I guess it just depends on how seriously people take it. I mean, just because I don't feel like saying the pledge one morning doesn't mean I plan on bombing the school.

Parental Unit thinks that I need to stand up as in say the pledge.
Thanks for the info, Genesis, I'll be sure to use that whenever it's necessary.

I hope everything turns out fine, because the school had no right to do that and your parents should support you.

According to the school; Since it was said in West Virginia, it doesn't apply to Texas
So I explain the concept of 'breaking the first amendment applies everywhere and everyone, not just Virginia and Jehova's Witnesses', and they're all like 'lul'.

So I'm taking this to court to get it settled.

Ah Texas, where they don't understand that Federal Law applies to states, especially something from the Bill of Rights. Your school administration probably supports the odd people there that still want Texas to seceed from the USA.

I wonder how long it'll take before they realize that they are fools for not taking federal law into account...

My money is on until court finds them stupid. Possibly never.
