It smacked him right on the side of the head, surprising him. He reached up and rubbed his temple, squinting back at her. "Nothing, really. The water is nice here and it's warm."
Her hands went to her mouth and she approached him quickly, one hand reaching out. "Oh, no! Z, I'm so sorry. Are you okay?"
He reached over and ruffled her hair lightheartedly. "It's bound to happen when you're a tall target."
Her hair was still damp from the water and she smiled a little, butting him gently with her head before returning to her spot.
She sat next to him, her feet in the water. She began to build up sand around her legs, seeming enchanted by the new building material.
She looked over at him. “Yeah,” she said agreeably. “You just said that this feels nice and I trust you.”
They laid there for awhile, the sun heating them up and the water cooling them. The sand was soft beneath them.
