Cupcakes isn't as bad as others make it out to be. I read it out of curiosity because of all the hype it gets, and to be honest, it didn't really bother me, and I don't even like grimdark material. Sure, the story was messed-up, but I didn't have nightmares from it, and I don't think any differently about Pinkie. If anything, I find some of the fandom's responses more annoying than anything else, such as separating an entity called "Pinkamena" as a different pony. Look, Pinkamena is Pinkie Pie. Pinkie's full name is Pinkamena Diane Pie. That's it. There's no such thing as the canon Pinkie going "Cupcakes" or turning into "Pinkamena." That is false. That does not exist. The "real" Pinkie would never murder her friends. What happened in "Party of One" was NOT a confirmation of Cupcakes nor did Cupcakes "predict" this would happen in the show. Also, Pinkie's behavior in that episode wasn't anything abnormal (except the part when she was talking to inanimate objects, but that's still not killing). She was upset because she thought her friends were lying to her. Wouldn't you be? Elementofchaos7 essentially said what I think about this, but for those of you interested. I have nothing against the guy that wrote it. I, personally, thought it was a rather unique perspective. However, it's fanon, and due to such, is false. I also read Rocket To Insanity which I thought was tame by comparison. ePONY, I understand the real Pinkie would never hurt her friends and that the Fan fic version is way out there. I think Pinkie only got labeled as split personality because she had an episode based solely around her in that state. Fluttershy doesn't get near the screen time being crazy as Pinkie did. It had an effect on me because like I said I put myself in the ponies hooves. I know It's just a self contained story. I agree with you, fanon it is, fanon it will hopefully forever stay.
That post from the other Cupcakes thread was amazing, and basically summed up WHY I feel the way I mentioned in my post from earlier in this thread. I didn't even think to include quotes from the episodes... Pinkie was only in her depressed state for the last act of the episode. Fluttershy's decent into rage, if I remember correctly, was a bit earlier in the episode, or at least was slightly less abrupt than Pinkie "becoming" (like ePONY said, "Pinkamena is Pinkie Pie.") Pinkamena.
I agree with you, I was just stating that Pinkie got an entire episode. Fluttershy had to split the episode with the other 5. I know that they're the same pony. In a fan fic universe anything can happen, so it's still just one guys vision of her.
Very true. You know, that reminds me--"Best Night Ever". I was surprised that Pinkie didn't react more. She did try and force everyone to party the way she wanted, but I know that you know, and I hope you know that I know that you know...ow, my brain. Anyway, it isn't just one guy's vision of her, though. Some joke about it, but others seem to seriously agree with his characterization of Pinkie. From everything I've heard of Cupcakes...it seems almost like it was meant to be a parody. Like it was TOO over-the-top. If that's the case, he probably didn't intend for it to have as much of an effect as it did.
it would be common for a fan of horror to write such a thing just for the "thrills and chills" besides isnt that what horrors all about? i mean hell i agree with ePONY on this to the fact that pinky is a good soul and would never hurt her friends in anyway nor would she hurt others but its just a fairy tale, like when twilight had her first sleep over and told scary stories about the headless horse, sure rarity and apple jack got scared but in reality it was just for fun. nothing to be over dramatic about nor taken seriously
