Hey I just started a romance/adventure, and it's new genre for me. I just wanted to know if I'm any good at it so far, and if I should continue

“Shining, come down and grab your bags. We’re about to leave!” Cadence shouted from her room of the crystal tower. They were both preparing for a trip that they had planned for a small while, they were going to try and wander around the know world, and possibly explore more. Cadence gathered only the essential items she would need in the wild, they both knew that this was going to be a long trip, but very worth it. Shining came trotting down the stairs with a few small bags all almost completely packed, he had a big smile on his face. Cadence would never forget that look she got before they left out of the door to say their goodbyes to the fellow citizen of the crystal empire. She very much trusted her new sister Twilight to take care of her kingdom while they were gone, even if something were to go wrong with her kingdom her other friends would gladly take care of it. Cadence and Shining Armor made their way through the crowds giving off their goodbyes, and finally made it to the edge of the city’s boundaries. The took one last glance back at the beauty of their home, and walked away hoping to not look back.

“This seems like a nice spot to take a rest for the night, we have had a little hectic of a day. You know what I mean, pushing through those crowds made me feel a little tired after all of this time, I don’t know that going back would be an option.” Shining Armor said in sarcasm, he was enjoying the peace and quite a lot. The Crystal Empire’s pony population always would ask him the questions, he would always tell the young fillies stories about the wars from before, and how the love of two can destroy almost anything. Everypony always loved his stories, but sometimes it was too much for him to take. He missed the good old days as the general of the great Celestial army to destroy King Sombra once and for all. His mind dosed off as Cadence cleared out a spot for the both of them to sleep.

“Hey, you mind gathering fire wood before it gets dark. We do kind of want a fire out here.” Cadence laid down on top of a small blanket she had laid down on the ground for the both of them, she starred up to him with a small but a loving smile. They both were happy to be out of the empire for a little bit, even Cadence got tired of being asked about the other princesses in Equestria and how they were doing. Everyday in the past year she had wanted to get out of the castle just to go for a small walk in her garden silently, but this seemed a lot better.

“This was all I could find, but I think it should do.” Shining Armor said as he dropped a small pile of sticks in the middle of the camp site.

“You did good, considering we do live in the middle of a winter plain, were did you even find this kind of wood out here?”

Shining giggled, and said “I couldn’t find much, so I went into town to get a little bit of wood. It really wasn’t far from here, but I don’t think it would be nice to stay there for the night, I don’t know how much story telling I can do. I hope I get new stories to tell after this trip, because I believe my current ones have gone bad.” Cadence stood up, and lit the fire using her magic. This was not the usual magic she was used to, but she thought that it would be useful later on if she started learning now.

“Do you think that sometime on the road you could teach me some of those tricks you can do with your horn, I kind of find my magic useless.”

Shining Armor smiled, and said “why would you think your magic is useless, it has gotten us out of plenty of bad situations, I would tell a story, but I don’t think it would be in the best interest for me to describe our wedding again.” He smile got even bigger. They both decided to call it a night after eating a small dinner, and went to sleep.

I'm not done yet with it of course, but I need a little feed back.
