Hi there! I'm Mike. I'm 17 and I absolutely love MLP:FiM. I've been a brony for only about a month, and I have been searching around for a good brony community for some time. I really like this site and decided to join! Below is the story of how I came to be a brony, and how it has helped me. You don't have to read it, but I like to tell stories. My - I guess you could call process - of becoming a brony started toward the end of October. I was in my room flipping through tv channels to find a movie to watch. Well I saw that "The Iron Giant" was going to start on the Hub. I absolutely loved that movie as a kid so I had to watch it. Once it finished, I was bored, and on my computer still with the Hub on in the background. I hear a song start to play. I look at the screen and it said "My Little Pony Equestria Girls". I was thinking "What is this abomination!? My Little Pony is so gross." Ignoring it, well trying to ignore it, I turned back to my computer. After the song had finished, I go on youtube and now I'm typing in "Equestria Girls". I ask myself "Why am I watching this? I hate Katy Perry and any parody of her songs...." At the end of the video I think to myself "That actually was kinda cool. Let me see an episode." So I'm watching the first episode and see the "Developed by Lauren Faust". I said to myself, "Lauren Faust? Well I did love all her previous work." So I finish the first episode. Thinking to myself, "Well, the first episode had no ending, I guess I'll watch the second. But no more after." After finishing the second episode, it’s really late, so I go to bed wondering "What did I just watch?" The next day, at school, I had this awkward feeling around my friends. I get home from school, and boom I'm on my computer watching Ep. 3. Then 4...5. I couldn’t stop! I felt so strange knowing that I’m watching a show that is designed for kids, and liking it. It wasn’t until a week later, had I noticed all the music, remixes, and YTPs made for the show. I instantly loved the remixes, I listen to them everyday now. I also became aware of the other side of the pony craze (you know what I'm referring to). I'm not into that kind of stuff, but I accept those who do, love and tolerance. Of course I’m rambling now trying to sum up a month of pony (impossible), but I’m trying! Basically it took a few weeks for me to truly accept the show and feel comfortable with myself. So now I’m still going through the first season trying to catch up, but taking my time so that I don’t spoil it all in one day. I’m still afraid of telling my friends about My Little Pony as they will probably laugh at me, call me various names, and tell others, and in a school setting, it’s hard to escape ridicule…CRUEL WORLD! So for now it’s a secret, but I really hope I can convert at least one friend. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, not only brings smiles to my face everyday, but has helped me with my anger and minor depression issues. Watching the show at the end of each day truly helps me to unwind and forget troubles, and is the true reason why I have love for this show, and wish everyone would watch it. I'm nowhere near "manly", I'm very sensitive, I'm not athletic, I don't watch sports, I've never had a girlfriend, and people at my school tend to make fun of me for those reasons. Before My Little Pony, all I saw were my disadvantages and faults. After seeing My Little Pony, I now embrace my faults to help shape my good traits. I'm smart, kind, and enjoy helping those in need. My Little Pony has truly taught me to accept myself for who I am. I am an overall happier person, and I have gotten better at taking insults and ridicule than ever before. I am very glad to be joining this community, and hope to make many friends during my time here. So, that's my story. For those who read it, I thank you, and for those who didn't, I understand. I do tend to ramble, I had to rewrite this like 3 times already to shorten it.

Hey there Mike, and welcome to the forum. It's cool to hear that discovering the show has changed your life in a positive way, even in such a short amount of time. It still surprises me that something as simple as a warm hearted TV show can help people open up about themselves, and accept who they truly are, but I'm glad that it's led you to this little part of the web community. I know you'll have a good time while your here, and that you'll be able to make plenty of new friends too, so enjoy yourself!
I read every word! Thank you very much for sharing your self-conversion story and your thoughts on how the show affects you. It was an interesting read. I, too, can encounter the problem of posting walls of text. Perhaps you'll be unfortunate lucky enough to see one pop up now and then. I would share my own self-conversion story, but I don't want to commit a "tl;dr." Heh. Besides, I've posted that story at least a couple of times on the forum already.
