Whatever happened to the idea of bronies being a 'Love and Tolerance' group? When the phrase is brought up by me, a stream of NO's pursues... Since when was the phrase abandoned? And why? Grey pointed out the phrase was originally used on 4chan to spite people who did not enjoy the fandom.
I though since Friendship is Magic came out, people have.. Well, not preached this idea, but enforced it in such a way that many other bronies followed suit. It was their thing for a while...
"outsiders" to the brony community probably wouldn't get the expression, or would just think, to be blunt, you were homosexual or something by saying it. Most bronies don't like the idea now, either. We don't have a replacement catchphrase for us, now we are meaningless! By the way Ailment, it's nice to see you've opened up a bit and ventured into the depths of Everypony n__n
Hey, at least you held on to your funniness! Haha! I may just do that... Y'know, we should make a thread for this! Devise a new catchphrase for bronies! This could catch on!
That last part could go in the 'Aliens' thread that's floating about here somewhere xD I'll have a think of some catchphrases riiight now.... ...... ......... APPLEJACK IS BEST PONY View attachment 6076
Except the show never really advocated it itself? Or that the fandom has started to use the phrase as an excuse to cover their own flanks when they say something (read: Shout Factory shenanigans)?
Well that's true, but the whole ideology in FiM is to, at the least, love eachother. We love haters (weird but true) and we tolerate them. It's become more of a mantra, maybe that's why people are getting fed up of it.
I will love and tolerate the **** out of you was a phrase Originally born on 4chan to spite people who did not enjoy the fandom. Questions?
I'm pretty sure I can argue the point about the show, even as early as S1E03. As for the mantra, I've noticed that, generally, people won't care if you're a brony or not unless you shove it into their faces, which a good amount of the fandom loves doing. "Hey, I like a show about ponies you gotta accept me you gotta you gotta because we love and tolerate." It has happened before in other fandoms and it will happen again with the next one, and the next one, and with all.
...and I went out and bought a Pinkie Pie t-shirt xD I don't see many bronies brag about it or even bring it up much, the bronies I met up with a few weeks back didn't say much about ponies at all...
So by process of elimination, we could make another catchphrase and it would probably better represent what the show and the fandom are both about? Seems legit. And no. The show may have taught me some life lessons but not much else xD
I understand what you mean, I just looked at it from the wrong angle. So you mean what it really means to be a part of a group in today's society. Gotcha. But.. The ponies do little loving (thankfully) and the only tolerating they do is of Trixie, so it's not really a show motto.
Pretty much everything I'm about to say has been mentioned here before, so I apologise in advance, The way I see it, you shouldn't have to be a brony to "love and tolerate", this is how anyone with morals should behave. As for where it came from, you said that it came from 4chan as a way to deal with trolls. The thing is that bronies started off as trolls, so they must have some sort of resistance against trolls to be able to survive that long. However, when people actually became real fans of the show, they didn't have this tolerance programmed into them. This is probably why bronies don't appear to love and tolerate.
Yeah, that phrase has been pretty much abandoned as of late by the community. I still try to live by it, not because I feel any obligation to as a fan of MLP but because I don't feel like being a negative, rude jerk to everyone anymore (unless they deserve it )
What B-Dog and Windy said. Love and tolerance has always been my ideal, but ponies made it more of a focus and made it easier for me to put into practice.
