Got to admit that she's amazing, though.

I hate how everyone's all like "Rainbow Dash is lesbian!".
Not that there's an issue with that, but I doubt it. It's stereotyping, people thought she was due to her tomboyish nature and her rainbow-colored mane, and that's saying a lot about people, since those'd probably be the same fans who always say "Don't assume someone's homosexual because they watch MLP!".

Yes, I agree with the above statement. I know that the Internet is the Rudeness Capital of the World, but assuming that a character from a children's television show is a lesbian for no better reason than "BECAUSE RAINBOWS AND TOMBOYISHNESS LOL" is kinda uncalled for. I'm really busy now, so if I make a character review of her like I did with Pinkie, I'll do it later, but for now I'll just say this: she's my favorite character. Any elaboration will be displayed at a later time.

Dash is mah girl. That tomboyish nature was originally drew me towards her, as it did for Sora and Misty from Digimon and Pokemon (respectively). She was also the main inspiration behind my OC being a Pegasi.

This was probably one of the better Dash defense plays that I've seen. That's worth some rep right there.

Rainbow Dash is also my favorite.
I have a Rainbow Dash wallpaper on my smartphone, and I installed the Google Chrome theme featuring her.
It happens a lot in the teen years among people, one girl even asked me if I was "gay" once, the word is in quotes because I believe in only using that word by its origional dictionary definition and not as an insult.
Although, admittidly I don't see everyone going "YOURE GAY HURR", I do see a lot of people using it in place of words like stupid and dumb.
Just recently one of my friends made one of the most unintelligent posts on Facebook:
    PLANKINGS GAY
To which I responded to with an entire paragraph about how his usage of the word gay is both incorrect and makes him look stupid.
Only one person (Who I didn't know so I could care less) responded, and it showed just how dumb he is:
"Tht was lame nd ur gay"
But I guess its just teen homophobia, if I'm lucky they'll grow out of it soon.

I responded within 10 seconds of me seeing it. Does that count?

Ah, Rainbow Dash. The edgy character of the show. The character tomboyish and edgy girls are supposed to most easily relate to. I agree with the lesbian comments from the other ponies here. Though I guess I can also see how some people would make a connection with her and being a lesbian. Since it's a obvious stereotype that rainbows are so often a sign of gheyness. And many see tomboyish girls the same way it seems. So when you couple the two together and a bunch of guys on the internet see this... yeah.. lol It gives some of the fanboys something to fantasize over I guess. XD

I agree completely with Derpy. I forgot all the lesbian part. The tomboyish side is basically all my female friends who I hung out with so much that I got used to it. Plus with Dash being a lesbian it's easier to ship her with everyone.

I quite like thinking of Dash as a lesbian. It makes her about 20% cooler.

Ah, yes, Rainbow Dash, one of my favourites. How did Scootaloo describe her?

    She's fast!
    She's tough!
    She's not afraid of anything!

Well... is she? Does this hold true?

There is one thing that Rainbow Dash is afraid of, and that's losing. In any sense. When somepony challenges her, she just has to win, ever since she defeated those two bullies in an impromptu air race and caused the first sonic rainboom witnessed by ponykind ever while she was at it. Coming in second isn't an option. This causes problems whenever she competes against Applejack who's used to never giving in, no matter how dire the circumstances. Rainbow Dash and Applejack are best friends, but in this case, Rainbow Dash doesn't even shy away from blatant cheating.

At the Best Young Flyers' Competition, on the other hoof, she couldn't cheat herself to victory, nor did she want to, because this was all about her actual skills and showing them off to an audience, a jury, and most of all, the Wonderbolts. But when Rarity came and stole her show with artificial wings, she probably realised what a situation she really was in. A flight school dropout who had failed to reproduce the sonic rainboom, most important part of her flight presentation, every single time she tried, and she tried often. What happened? She collapsed in a Heroic BSOD and tried to delay her presentation further and further, regardless of the fact that she had to go out there some time anyway. And when she finally started, she messed up two of her three phases, the two comparatively easy ones.

It seems to me like Rainbow Dash draws pretty much all her self-confidence from her speed and her certainty to win any racing competition. Her speed has been important in this for a long time, but mostly for showing off and backing her big yap. This changed with her first sonic rainboom when she discovered racing—and winning races, something that would be easy for Equestria's only pony that's capable of flying faster than the speed of sound. The Best Young Flyers' Competition showed her the hard way that racing isn't everything when her own friend Rarity beat her with a display of pure beauty which she felt her own skills could never outshine. We can only speculate what would have become of her if Rarity hadn't pulled an Icarus.

Speaking of her (newly-found) friends, I suppose she's afraid of losing them, too. She wouldn't have met the earth ponies and unicorns of the mane cast if it hadn't been for Twilight Sparkle. And she barely stayed in touch with Fluttershy either after the latter moved to the ground; actually, I'm not sure if the two met that often after Rainbow Dash stood in for Fluttershy and raced and defeated the two bullies who harassed the quiet, inconfident pegasus filly. I guess that Rainbow Dash hardly had any friends before the events of the show. I mean, other than Fluttershy and the jocks, her only earlier acquaintance mentioned so far and probably the only one who came close to being a friend was that jerky griffon Gilda. And now she has actual ponies for actual friends, quite likely for the first time in her life. I'm certain that if she experienced a treatment similar to Pinkie Pie's in Party of One, the sight of her snapping won't be pretty.

To come to a conclusion, in my opinion, Rainbow Dash's toughness, speed and being (at least) 20% cooler than the rest is a façade to hide her actual insecurity which she tries quite hard to hide but does so well enough to convince everypony including herself that everything is cool.

As for Rainbow Dash being a lesbian, as I already said in my introduction, I'm one of those (few?) who oppose that idea. Same goes for Bon Bon being a lesbian, Lyra being a lesbian, and so forth. Granted, yes, in Rainbow Dash's case, one is easily convinced (tomboy, rainbow theme, we've had this in this thread before), but this seems to actually be a case of trying to ship as many characters as possible in an almost all-female cast—or slash for slash's sake because het is boring. I'd rather see her compete with Spitfire for Soarin' (regardless of his table manners—in turn regardless of the potential absence of a table).

I got to say, when I first got in to FiM, Rainbow Dash was actually one of the ponies I liked the least at first.

Now, she's my second favorite of the mane six!
