When the invasion first came, all was good. It was a normal day. Bright. Sunny. Then came the first bite. Now, in a land filled with rain and remorse, Equestria, there is no more laughter, no more sunshine. Just the utmost need for pony flesh. There are few survivors. All you have come across is Zombies, Zombies, Zombies. Until now. * * * Aqua trudged through the stream of rotting bodies, the rain whipping around her. A small tear slipped down her cheek as she walked, minute after minute. How the hay did it end up like this?
Altonia got out of bed. She listened for the wub dishwasher to be going, a dj playing, or even the slightest sound of Octavia tuning her cello. No sound. 'Mysterious' she thought, 'Vinyl Scratch ought to be making some noise.' She knocked on Octavia's door, thinking maybe they were sleeping in. Nopony answered, so she opened the door. The room was deserted. She had never been in Vinyl's room, afraid of possibly having a heart attack of the clutter. She swallowed hard and opened the door. It was.. not too bad, but no Vinyl Scratch. 'Maybe they're at a gig.' She grabbed the phone and called Skullduggery. He always answered, even if he was making a scientific breakthrough. He didn't answer. 'This is very strange.. I guess I'll call Heverin, even though she's working her shift at the Rainbow Factory. She called. "Hello?" the phone answered. Altonia gasped, not knowing she'd been holding her breath from being scared. "H-Heverin?" she asked. "Sure as I work for Rainbow Dash. Why'd you call? Don't you know it's dangerous?" "D-dangerous?" Heverin gasped on the phone. "You didn't hear? Haven't you seen the-" the phone line was cut off. Altonia screamed. She was scared easily. She searched her thoughts. 'Seen the what? What didn't I see? The signs? The new video? T- the... what?' She spent her time pacing, trying to remember. Suddenly she realized something. 'Heverin always watches the news before she goes to work! The news! That's what I didn't see!' She turned on the TV.
Aqua peered around. She looked at the deserted houses, except for one, with a light on. (Supposedly Altonia's.) She turned towards it, then heard a noise behind her. Lashing out, she kicked the zombie, and yelped. The ground rumbled, and water attacked the zombie.
Altonia heard and felt the rumble in the ground. She looked out the window, barely hearing what the news was saying. She recognized the pony at once. The weren't good friends, but Altonia still recognized her. It was Aqua. She was about to run out the door and greet her, having been so scared of the suddenly barren Ponyville. Then she looked out at the rest of Ponyville. Then she saw them, the zombies. She screamed and stared at the news. "There have been numerous zombie reports from around Equestria," the news pony said. She screamed out "Aqua come over here!" squeezing herself against the window. She wanted to get Aqua's attention as much as possible.
Aqua saw Altonia. She sat down with the zombies around her, about to take a bite out of her shoulder, when the ground shook with a mighty roar, and a huge wave pushed the zombies away. Blinking, Aqua walked to Altonia's house, and knocked.
Altonia opened the door at once and pulled Aqua in. "H- how have you been surviving? Is everypony dead?" She had so many questions to ask. Her friend Skullduggery was very famous, for his scientific work. "Is Skullduggery alright? What happened to the phone line? How is the news pony still alive? Are we the only survivors?" She had never been trained to handle this kind of situation. She felt nauseous and she had a headache and she felt like she had a fever. Even though she was a dark grey pony, all the color had drained from her face.
Aqua looked at Altonia. "Oh.. Altonia.." she shook her head. "All I've met was zombies. Any friends you have probably not survived."
Altonia looked away. She didn't want Aqua to see her cry, especially when it seemed as if she had hidden like a coward in her house. She wiped her face with her hoof and looked at Aqua. "You can call me Alto, I used to let my friends call me that, but seeing that their gone, and mostly everypony is gone, you could be my friend." She smiled faintly at Aqua. "Skullduggery was my best friend. When we were fillies, we used to play around. We were both orphans, and it filled my sorrowful heart with joy every time we were together." She took a few deep breaths. "So, what do you suggest we do?"
Aqua was quiet. "I've heard that they're setting up a camp in Canterlot. Maybe your Skullduggery went there." (Have you, by chance, read Skullduggery pleasant?)
Haze was awoken by a strange rumbling. She suddenly sat up-right on her bed, peering around the room like a meerkat. It seemed a little dark outside, through the window... Perhaps it was just the end of a dream... Haze closed her eyes again, and tried to get back to sleep
(Nope but perhaps I'll find a time.) Alto's face lit up by the feeling of hope. 'Skullduggery was a smart- I mean is a smart unicorn, perhaps he did go there. Plus, I know Heverin is safe she can fly almost as fast as Rainbow Dash and she's could take out a zombie in her sleep.' she thought. "So Aqua, how do you suppose we get there, and are you sure you didn't see any more survivors?"
Alright. I'm ready. All she really wanted to do was bring her viola, which she did, and it fit nicely across her back.
)) Aqua took a deep breath. "One, Two, Three.." A big noise came from outside. "Let's go!" cried Aqua. She threw open the door, and began running down the empty streets. cri
Altonia was NOT a good runner. A turtle could probably beat her in a race. But thinking of seeing Skullduggery again and playing her viola for other survivors made her run A LOT faster than she usually would. "Wait a second!" she yelled, thinking that a normal talking voice wouldn't do her any good. " We can't run all the way to Canterlot, can we?" She thought of the distance, she thought about her legs. Then she realized she didn't eat this morning. "Oh-no" she mumbled. A moment off paying attention was all it needed. She tripped on a rock, falling on her front right leg. She broke it.
Aqua gasped. Her horn glowed, and Alto was surrounded in a bubble. Aqua lifted her into the air, and ran, slower than before. "We might be able to find somepony who can help you!" she said, running. A zombie came up to her, and when it when for the kill, a spike of water came out of the earth and pulverized it. Aqua kept running.
Alto tried to move her leg, and she screamed in pain. 'Why wasn't I paying attention? I'm so stupid, we're probably going to be attacked by zombies because of my stupid mistake! I'll never see any of my friends, and I'll let Aqua die, because of my mistake!' she thought. Her eyes started getting fuzzy, and she got very dizzy. "I'm sorry," was all she could say before she went out cold.
Aqua cursed under her breath. "Aaedre! I need you!" a wave swooped up and lifted her off the ground. She landed in the Everfree forest.
