CoD 4 was awesome. I'm talking about the new, cloney ones, like Black Ops. If not pokemon, then Final Fantasy or another good RPG. I'm not talking in general, I mean adventurey things, not little minigames or short matches.
Well, well...it seems this thread has wandered a little bit. I guess now we're discussing old vs new video games. Didn't really think you guys would define and rate generations by what video games and music came from them. Although to add my 2 cents on this new topic we find ourselves on, yes, games like GoldenEye were baws back in the day. Have you played it recently though? It's terrible. People aren't meant to have square faces. And what about modern day games? They certainly aren't all bad. I'd much rather have been playing Portal 2, Fallout or Skyrim back then than Sonic the Hedgehog. And as far as today's' music goes, everyone thinks current music is mainstream, pop culture garbage. Back in the 90s people whined about their music and said music from the 80s was way better. Now in 2012 everyone is saying music from the 90s was better. Most of the popular songs from those eras were not popular when they came out. Look it up. Also I can't help but wonder if half the people denouncing "today's generation" realize that they themselves are part of today's generation.
Most people are aware of this. I've seen teenagers on the internet apologising for their own generation numerous times. It's too early to say whether or not our generation is a failure.
Well, that depends. What is the criteria for failing? I really don't think a generation can "fail" per say. Although the 70's mighta came close with those parachute pants... And don't apologize for your generation guys, take pride in it. One day people are going to be talking about how cool the 90's and 00's were, and you'll be able to say thats when you grew up. I know I can already say I lived before internet and computers in every household was the norm, I was alive when both dvd and blu-ray were invented, the first African-American U.S. president, 9/11, the death of Osama bin Laden, the discovery of the God particle and now the lunar rover on Mars; as well as a dozen or so other things that will probably define my generation.
Having been born in 1959 and raised in the 60's I can say definitively that the quality of America's youth has certainly gone down. Now, before you jump on me I have to clarify my statement. Today's youth are certainly, in general, mush more disrespectful of each other and older people. This disrespect has become so ingrained that many don't even realize they're doing it. It's in the way they talk, their inflections, their lack of tact and so on. Their language has deteriorated to the point that many, girls included, don't see anything wrong with talking about their sex lives and sexual organs out in public in front of men, women and children. That being said, there are many young people who are exceptional morally, patriotically and spiritually. During the Iraq war, when many were wondering if today's youth could compare the the Greatest Generation they acquitted themselves nicely and made America proud of them. Many young people are interested in what's right and wrong without the political and ideological baggage. It's a mixed bag, and I do think previous generations were better in some ways but we all live in our own times and those times present unique challenges that the other generations never have to face.
That's true. And I think that's the right attitude. That speaks to me. I often only hear the current generation complain about themselves, and very rarely do I hear past generations complain about "kids these days". Maybe, but maybe not. Before there was Pokemon Stadium or Goldeneye, there was Space Invaders. That game was a big deal when my dad was a kid. He and one of his brothers would sit in an arcade and play it all the time. That was THEIR Pokemon Stadium, and they think that YOU have nothing to compare it to. It's all in perspective. Perhaps, to some kids, CoD might be THEIR Pokemon Stadium. A "mixed bag" is an excellent way to put it. It seems to be that way with EVERY generation. I did highlight one statement of yours that I agree with. The media has taught women, not only of this generation but of past generations as well, that it's okay for their bodies to be treated as public objects. This bothers me GREATLY (and hey, I'm the younger generation. ).
I feel like I am out of place with my generation... Well granted that my generation is a ton of desensitized ****heads, I'm glad to be the social outcast I am...
Today's youth really disappoints me. Whatever happened to the days that regular people wanted success instead of "Yolo". Just because you live once, it doesn't mean you can throw away your life that it is nothing. Also, the ignorance of our youth is mind numbing as well. Being a plain jerk and a rear end is now considered "cool", and the fun thing to do. All that is left is broken minds and depressed children. *sighs*
Now you see the bullcrap I deal with every day. That is why I declare myself the teenager before his time.
I think I know what you mean and I do find it bothersome that many people think talking about your dong all the time is cool. On the other hand I don't think sex should be as much of a taboo as it is, I see nothing wrong with the act itself and therefore do not think you need to refrain from talking about it, even in front of children. However if the person is being too graphic in the description, yes I would find that offensive. But the prudes usually bother me more.
Well... I don't know how to put this without making it seem like "It's her or the ponies"... but I'll try. >.> I think what you should do is think about what means more to you; your feelings to make her happy or your feelings to be able to enjoy what you want. At the end of the day, it's your decision on how you spend your money or what you enjoy. Now you could compromise, try not to talk ponies with her, making sure you don't go on any pony sites and such when you visit her and see how she feels about that. At the same time, you could ask if she be a little more understanding; let you play brony music that isn't obviously pony could be a good place to start. If you catch her on a particularly good day, you could suggest something like this: Have her talk to us, your brony friends, and no one mentions ponies at all, and let her see we're just normal guys who like to talk about games and such like anyone else. In the end, it's whatever makes you happy that's important. I hope this has helped. I leave the rest for the others to comment on.
