After seeing the thread What song expresses you on the general chat thread I thought that it would be a good idea to also ask What Scenery describes you. Both of these topics may go hand in hand in some parts.

My scenery would have to be the pine forests of the North West coastal region, mainly in the area of Oregon and Washington state. Not only because I have lived in that region for a good amount of my life, but also that there is just something about walking in between the pine trees especially after it has rained. This type of scenery describes me because I like to get lost sometimes and just go exploring in general.

Don't actually have a picture of this, but I suppose the best sort of scenery that describes me would be a desert - something vast like the Gobi or Sahara, and there'd be an oasis in the middle of it. That's me, my friends, and EveryPony.

The Desert. The Desert is all encompassing. Nothing can escape the Desert...
    That's basically it.

This place. A nice field overlooking the ocean. I visit this place almost every year. There is a constant wind and there are always dozens of kites being flown here. What you don't see is the giant fortress off to the left.

The wind, the field, the ocean, and an old fortress....perfection.

Derelict rural ruins. Seriously, I am completely in love with that. It's why my old username for things was RuinedRoadsides, it was a catchier alternate to the more accurate Ruins on the Roadside. I love the imagery and juxtaposition of man made machinery and tunnels, forgotten about in the vast countryside, miles from human civilisation. It's not typical scenery, in fact most people would say it's ugly and depressing, but I love it, I really really do. I could spend hours at places like these. I prefer this kind of scenery to typical picturesque scenery any day.

It's really hard to explain what it is I like about them, and even harder to explain the kind of places I'm talking about. Since a picture's worth a thousand words, I'll just use a few personal favourites of mine to explain.

This is literally one of my favourite pictures ever.

Words can't describe how much I love this.

I'm jealous of whoever took this photo.

I could spam this entire thread with photos that I simply love, but I won't. Instead, I'll just share a few more that really capture that feeling of isolation and the derelict.

Oh my god this is amazing.

It's beautiful in it's own way, and although it may be ignored or considered unsightly by most, to me, it's where I find peace. This is art to me, and if there's any scenery in the world that would relate to me, it would have to be this.

I think it's the forest which does that picture for me. The rusted and decrepit elephant seems forgotten and dead in the growing forest, just wow. I never noticed these things before you started pointing them out to me. I think we should go on an adventure with a camera. What are you doing tomorrow? Do you REAAALLY need to go to college?

@Luprony- truly those scenes are not ugly as much as they are doorways into the past.

Sometimes I'll just stop whatever I'm doing and stare at the sky for a while, my friends always ask what the heck I'm looking at, and shake their heads when I tell them "the sky."

I dunno, it just fascinates me.

The city... an odd choice, maybe, but I really like the city. :3
I can appreciate nature and all, but in the end, I like the noise, and the large crowds, the convenience, and just being "one of the crowd" in the city, unlike country/small town life...
...I might be a bit biased towards country life though, admittedly. :derpe:

While some of the pictures you posted were scary and even depressing to me, these two are just plain magical.
I understand what you mean... I too love overgrown, abandoned stuff in the wilderness. But sometimes it frightens me.
I'm not sure why... but it's more than just 'there might be junks in there'.

It reminds me of a dream I had tonight.
I entered a forest by myself. It was bright pleasant weather, and I enjoyed it but was also quite nervous.
I love being alone in the forest, but I can never fully enjoy it because I always keep worrying about terrible things that might happen to me when I'm alone.
That's why in real life I never go to the forest alone anymore... It just makes me feel too vulnerable, and I still look too young to feel confortable on my own.
At a certain point in my dream, I started thinking about Slenderman. Of course this made me more nervous, and (as I was half expecting) I started seeing him in the distance as soon as I started worrying.
Panick got to me, and I started to walk hastily towards the forest's exit. On my way there I met a elderly man and woman. I was paranoid they might want to hurt me, so I walked around them in a big curve.
    I can't remember anything else.

Ok, this story was a bit unrelated. But it sort of has to do with my love and fright for abandoned stuff.

Am I right in thinking that picture of the bumper cars is from Chernobyl, Lup? I am fascinated by old bunker ect from the Cold War era, kinda similar.

Back on track, I'd say that a snowy forest of sorts would describe me. I love the cold and snow, the tree's making it feel secluded.

Hopefully I can move country to somewhere like it oneday. :\

EDIT: Hmmm, I wanna move here

Yes, that one was taken in Prypiat, which is in the exlcusion zone of Chernobyl. The elephant was also taken from within the zone. From a purely aesthetic point of view, I love Chernobyl. As with you, anything from the Cold War era really strikes a chord with me.

Heh. After seeing Lup's pictures, I might want to add the ruins in my desert with the oasis . . . OK, never mind. But I'm fascinated by ruins as well. There's this island off Japan (I believe) which used to some kind of factory, maybe whaling, and it was abandoned about 40 years ago. It's a dangerous place, but I would love to go spend some time there.

When I lived with my grandparents for a year, there were many abandoned trailers, and old buildings near their farm. It was wonderful to go explore, even though they kept telling me not to.

Not too many abandoned buildings around here - well, that I can get into. There's an abandoned casino that I always like to walk by and look at. Thirty years abandoned. It must be fascinating inside.
